4HV means different things to different people. When I do a new project, media has first priority then my website then 4HV. I feel my best contribution of my limited time to 4HV is in the production of unique projects. Rightly or wrongly I don't have a lot of time for mentoring or teaching, although I answer all my emails. It is hard for me to justify time to a Wiki when my personal website still needs many hours of work. The ability to put a project up for discussion can be helpful when I (like any noob) comes up against the limit of understanding. For example I have had helpful advice recently from Chris Russell in regard to magnitudes and Steve Connor in regard to LED ballasting (use some iron fencing wire!). I have many many ideas I would like to follow (and few of them involve making a HV supply). Heck, maybe one day I will make a DRSSTC.
I too lament the "loss" of the mega-threads of the past like the can crushing thread. Porting across the ***add your Tesla coil here*** thread to the current 4HV was a labor of love but so much would have been lost from view if it hadn't been. I sincerely hope that in a new and inevitable software environment that these living treasures are not lost. Its popularity as the number 1 thread on 4HV justifies my opinion.
My challenge to our many 4HV contributors is to think of novel things to do with your newfound sparks. And they don't have to be big. My tiny coils have had a lot of media exposure but never for just sitting there making sparks. That's what makes high voltage interesting for me - it is a means to an artistic end. My longest spark photo comes in at number 34 on my home page - it's just not that important. Novel ideas are not the exclusive domain of experts. Thinking outside the box of what to do with sparks can be done by anyone. But it's all been done before?? Has it? A couple of moments thought comes up with these couple of suggestions: Who has ever taken a picture of corona inside an ice cube of distilled water for example? I'd love to see what happens. Use your DC flyback to have a grid generating dimples on mineral oil with electrostatic attraction for example.

Nice one Steve!! It even finds 3 letter words!! Until the new forum comes, this may be a great way to search old posts.
Agreed, even though I know about Googles site search (within Google just click "advanced search" and then enter the site URL in the "Search within a site or domain:" box) and have recommended it to other people in the past I STILL forget to use it myself sometimes !!! The 3 letter word thing on many forums REALLY annoys me! It also amazes me how many people are unaware of the Google facilities of "must contain" ( +"blah") and must not contain ( -"blah") which are VERY useful for filtering out rubbish. I just wish that Google style search facilities could be built in to forums rather than having to open another window/tab to search.

Personally I find 1 to 1 realtime chats much more productive and efficient than using a forum for this kind of thing, i realise it doesn't really help anyone else but at least you know you've taught some people some things, those of you who I've helped know who you are.
Yea i think that is a valid point... I have taken a few people under my unprofessional wing, being pretty much a beginner (about 4 years) i guess i know what it is like to not quite understand something like a transformer or something else we consider simple. Oh, and yea, i know who i am
