The internet is looking pretty tired already. smile

No, I mean ISPs will tier the internet to make big sites like engadget etc run fast and small sites like these run painfully slow.

I sure wish First Contact would be made! Something like that would possibly the most momentous point in the entire history of humanity!

Amateur particle accelerators using 'surplus' superconducting magnets will be 'the thing to build'.

Yeah, if aliens are roaming the universe then they probably are a) looking for resources. b) looking for a new planet. Neither of those scenarios bode well for us.

Do you think we are able to defend ourselves from a race capable of interstellar travel?

1.) Computer HDD will no longer be restricted to the mechanical for consumer use & mechanical HDD will become a thing of the past.

2.) The older "Mazda, non-piston" ICE automobile motor will be resurrected with electric option.

3.) More advanced hand-held devices will appear and become much less expensive as will digital cameras find methods of copying the few things that film cameras can still do that digital cannot.

Perhaps a latter day Tesla will come up with the concept
of the 'rotating electric fueled" for a car motor.

1) We will finally see dual and quad core smartphones.
2) The NIF will achieve scientific breakeven.
3) The price of mobile internet devices will finally drop to a level that allows them to be commonplace.
4) *Secret Wish* Someone will discover that electric cars are more efficient at large voltages, leading to a massive drop in the price of those lovely 6500V 600A bricks.
5) *Secret Wish #2* Casio makes a DLP projector in which the R, G, and B light sources are all laser diodes.
