Just for the tip too, Horse latative is another fancy term for mineral oil. Places that sell stuff for horse owners would carry this. It is true like someone said, pharmacy does have mineral oil, since it's use is to well, clean out your body.

So do some searching. You can also use boiled linseed oil (you can buy pre-boiled) at paint stores, but it does cost more. Tractor supplie stores (at least mine) sells 1 gallon for $20 for mineral oil...I need 2 gallons my self, my quad stack... smile

Good luck!

Paraffin can be modified by dissolving some polyethylene in it - this makes it tougher, slightly pliable, less likely to crack, and raises the melt point.
'Hot glue' sticks also work well as a modifier for paraffin.

Thanks. I had no problem with cracking in the paraffin itself, but in contact with other materials (plastic container) it almost always cracks. Nevertheless it is also ideal to preserve jam. cheesey

be careful about this "paraffin". Most probably you are using commercially available little candles, and melt them for the insulator. If this is the case, the paraffin you get contains other additives, impurities, and so on, and it's not a good idea to spread it everywhere around your HV setup, and then to discover you still get a lot of corona. Cleaning it, after such a mistake, can use a lot of your time.

Pure paraffin may have the parameters you've quoted from wiki, but paraffin from candles does not.

Oil on the other hand performs excellent and it is a safer bet for a good insulation.

Agreed! But I use pure paraffin from Spaaz and had never problems.
