Your " five months of failure" was very likely NOT the fault of your 811s, and if you think that simply jumping to a higher power tube will solve all your design, construction, and tuning problems then you are in for a serious disappointment.

If you have a good tube, and if you UNDERSTAND how a VTTC operates, and if you construct your VTTC properly, and if you tune it properly, you will be able to duplicate the performance of any of the dozens of other experimenters who have successfully built 811A VTTCs.

If you follow the same path with your GU-5B coil that you followed with your 811A coil, you will likely (once again) only achieve your "peach-fuzz" arcs.

Why not, with the assistance of this forum, get your 811A coil running properly so you can LEARN something about VTTC construction and tuning? Post all your design parameters, along with detailed photos of the entire coil, and people will help you troubleshoot your coil and correct your problems. What you learn while getting your 811A coil running properly will be extremely valuable in getting a larger, more powerful coil running.

This thread is in violation of the site rules. Specifically, rules II:B and II:C. You need to start doing more research before creating threads, and heeding the advice of members who are trying to help you. I don't mean to be rude, but 4hv.org is not the kind of place you can expect to be spoon-fed information.

Please consider doing more research in the future, or stopping by the chat room to handle simpler queries that you can't answer on your own.
