What type of transistor is it?

A e130003 I found from a old charger.

I just want to know anyway, because there are 3 pins. And I dont know what to do with them.

I messing around with some transistors I have and a spare flyback.

I can't find any info on that transistor, but I suspect it is too small to drive a flyback.

You'll need a transistor that can be mounted on a heatsink. You can get these from things like car radios, TV's, monitors and power supplies, but I'd recommend buying one of the transistors mentioned earlier in this thread, as other people will be able to give you advice about them.

They only cost a couple of quid.

Thanks, but I want to know how to wire them up though.

And this can be mounted on a heatsink, and I have a ew old AM2/3 and socket 754 heatsinks with thermal paste.

I dont really know much about trasistors, are they like relays?

Ok, I assume it is a BJT (bi-polar junction transistor). It is sort of like a relay. You need to identify which terminal is the base, which is the emitter, and which is the collector.

You should be able to do this by reading up on transistor case/package types.

For example, if it is a TO3 case type, you can look up TO3 and identify which pin is which. (I think you'd also need to know if it is NPN or PNP,)

Without more information I can't really help much. Maybe someone else can add something?

Thanks once again Ash for replying.

I just took a handful of transistors all from which I have taken from a old computer SMPS, and other things.

They are all like little black boxes.

they read;

S7912PI

E13003

STPS2045CTC

AND

09N03LA.

Go look up the datasheets of those transistors. You want one with high current, voltage, and power ratings; otherwise you'll have problems with transistors failing.
The horizontal output transistor in a monitor or TV often works.

Ash, I looked up the E13003 transistor.

here it is Link2

That is from one manufacturer.

It was also recently stated in this thread a MEJ13009 transistor could be used to drive a flyback, this is nearly the same?

Well, the first one is a voltage regulator with a maximum output of 1 amp, according to the datasheet:

Link2

So, even if it could be used to switch a flyback (I'm not sure here) it wouldn't give big arcs.

I'll see what I can find on the others, but I'd still recommend buying one of the transistors mentioned earlier in this thread. You are bound to burn at least one out anyway, everyone does, that's how you learn.
