woops!
It might be useful as a fluorescent test surface, the ZnS is basically the same stuff as they use on scintillator screens.
maybe sprinkle some of the powder onto an Am241 source to see if it glows?

Interestingly, the same technique could be used to drive an LC circuit. In this case the diode stack is bypassed in the forward direction with a voltage limiter and in the reverse direction with a Schottky diode so that the oscillation amplifies on each positive cycle.
A modern slant on the "original" betavoltaic systems
Needless to say this would be much more efficient than a low voltage (tens of millivolts) DC system, and the resonant tank voltage could rise above a few KV over several minutes. Maybe even more with superconducting capacitor and inductor...
