Is there some Mathatical optimal shape for the best secondary to best inprove performance of the coil. optimal angle, top and base ratio. i know it will afect the number turns in the secondary, the turns per meter will increace the the diameter drops. im a math guy so this stuff intrestest me. if i recall corectly Tesla had bult conical type transformers

I have seen somebody make a Tesla coil out of a traffic cone, though, so it can be done.
The solution to the slipping and loosening is a double sided adhesive paper! I use it all the time for my coils. The stuff i get comes in 12" x 12.5" sheets, pressure sensitive. All i do is cut to the secondary height, wrap it around the form to match the circumference, cut it, apply it, and wind away!! The paper has no effect on the operation of the coil in the end and its a dirt cheap solution to an age old pain in the @$#. Also helps bonding when you apply the coating because it absorbs the poly!
