Many years ago I worked at a "government establishment" that did "things".

Amongst the "things" I worked on, there was a LD50 Link2 list, which on inspection, had some very odd entries...

One of those (that I can repeat) was the LD50 level for "Persil" (a type of washing powder used in the UK). For an average human, the LD50 level was 26kg, presumably dropped from a tall building.

Symptoms were listed as including "frothing at the mouth"...

Any else have odd (non-secret)) LD50 values? (not ones that are in the Wiki article...)

Cheers,

What are you thinking of doing? Forming a breakaway forum for amateur toxicology and mortuary enthusiasts?

In end stage Buckfast Dependency Syndrome, misusers have been known to inject the foul liquid directly into the frontal lobes of the brain via the orbits of the eye. In these cases, as little as 5 ml has been known to cause convulsions, coma, and death. But Buckie enthusiasts claim the practice - known as 'hotlining' - makes a bottle go that wee bit further.

Nicko: should people be alert to undissolved crystals in the bottoms of their cups when it's your turn to make the tea?

I think that if I could conceal 26kg of Persil in a cup of tea, I'd deserve a medal!

Please excuse me whilst I go and tend my Castor Oil plants and drill a hole in the end of my umbrella mistrust

Drink up!

The LD50 of Buckfast is one bottle, if you get hit over the head with it hard enough.

LD50 is calculated by feeding the stuff to rats and scaling the result up by body weight. So you can calculate it for anything you can force a rat to eat.
