"Buckie" is Buckfast Tonic Wine, a vile concoction produced by Benedictine monks at Buckfast Abbey in England. Its active ingredients are alcohol (15%) and caffeine, the last stop on the line before denatured alcohol, street drinking, and vagrancy.

Like the pious men they are, the Buckfast monks deny that their super-lucrative product is the cause of widespread social harm.

Amongst the bee-keeping fraternity (of which I partake) Buckfast Abbey is famous for Brother Adam Kehrle, a noted bee geneticist, who produced a strain of Apis Mellifera which is well suited to the British climate and resistant to many diseases.

My own colonies are derived from Buckfast queens.

Before the advent of Buckie, the Abbey made a lot of money from Brother Adam, and was known by some less than charitable souls as "Fastbuck Abbey"... ISTR about 20 years ago the abbot himself became concerned about the commercialisation of the abbey, and for a while they restricted such activities.

"Buckie" is what is known in Australia (and by Monty Python Link2 as a "fighting wine"...
