Hi guys,

sorry for not untroducing myself so much - I am not much of an HV-guy, but laser and stuff and I found some "part" that a friend of mine told me could be interesting for you guys...

I have no idea what to do with it and - to be honest - I was close to throwing it away.

So can anyone tell me what this thing (unused as far as I know) is worth and if anyone can use it? If you want it, please send me an eMail or PI.

It is a EEV CX1622 Deuterium Thyratron 35kV 5kA

Datasheet: See google

ABRIDGED DATA
Deuterium-filled, flange mounted tetrode thyratron featuring
high peak current, high rate of rise of current, low jitter and low
anode delay time drift. It has been specifically designed to
switch discharge circuits for pulsed lasers and for switching
long pulses. It has an internally connected reservoir operated
from the cathode heater supply and an internal shield to
minimise X-ray emission from the region of the anode.
Peak forward anode voltage . . . . . . 35 kVmax
Peak forward anode current . . . . . . . 5.0 kAmax
Average anode current . . . . . . . . 0.5 Amax
Rate of rise of current . . . . . . . . 50 kA/ms max
Pulse repetition rate . . . . . . . . 200 ppsmax
GENERAL DATA
Electrical
Cathode (connected internally to
mid-point of heater). . . . . . . . . oxide coated
Heater voltage . . . . . . . . . . . 6.3+ 5% V
Heater current . . . . . . . . . . 22 A
Tube heating time (minimum) . . . . . . 5.0 min
Mechanical
Seated height . . . . . 304.8 mm (12.000 inches) max
Clearance required below
mounting flange . . . . . 44.45 mm (1.750 inches) min
Overall diameter (excluding
mounting flange) . . . 84.12 mm (3.312 inches) max
Net weight . . . . . . . 0.7kg(11

I'm pretty sure that these are used as triggers in nuclear weapons. High voltage, high pulse current and very low reaction times so you can set off the detonators with high precision

Nope, those are krytons that are used in nukes. I want one but they're impossible to get. Link2

And proud mary lighten up a bit. Do you really think a scammer would come here peddling a thyratron?

It's a matter of following the rules really. The rules explicitly state "Do not register for the sole purpose of selling something". It is a good idea to keep the few rules we have well defined.

What I think is not the issue. Everyone agrees to the rules when they register as a member. The rules are not arbitary, and this poster has also exceeded the allowable image size.

The intent of the rule is to stop people from joining the forum purely to sell things.

But then again, it is a really nice tube smile I think I'll leave this as a judgment call to one of the other mods.

Man thats one sexy tube you got there... And it definately looks like spanking new as well, no discoloration whatsoever.

Id be all over it, but then again, I dont like thyrathrons simply because you have to heat them up, 22Amps at 6.3v, jeez :D

As for krytrons, people say they can be found on fleemarkets in the usa.. one even claimed he got a box of em for like 50 cent a piece.... Never heard of anyone finding sprytrons tho :D. I dont get the whole "illegal to sell/buy/trade" thing, as it would seem a simple spark gap which anyone can build in like 10 mins allows switching of even higher energies (and is even faster?)
Soz for offtopic, couldnt restrain myself

PS Feel free to delete this post if it contains stuff you dont want to be found on this forum

PS2. You post you are more interested in laser and you got no idea what this can be used for - high powered pulsed lasers might be a start :). It even says so in the datasheet :D

Digging a bit into this fishy sale some questions did come up...

The pictures are hosted at biomems.de that appears to be a medical company without anyhting on the site, the registrant is also the contact on several other domain names from where spam have been reported according to this blogger...

Link2

He writes to email him without leaving a email adress.
He sells a very expensive item and talks about it as may be trash, though uses shiny framed pictures.
As pointed out, the laser usage.

Make up your own mind... but something isn't right here....
