I've been after a a platinum thermocouple on the cheap for years if there's still any available?
I'm not sure how to weld the two wires together though...
The rest would be good for electrolysis!

Hey, I still have a bunch left. Let me know if you want bare wire, I am going to try spot welding the wires together tomorrow in which case I can weld some for you.

That's great! Thanks. I'll PM you. smile

Edit: I'm wondering about the effect of spot welding contaminating the junction. It's not clear to me if it will make any difference in practice.

Yea, I am not sure either. I will try to limit the current to the joint and isolate it with something, but may just have to twist it together or rig a quick capacitive discharge welder (usually what is sold for thermocouple welding).

Spot welding doesn't work, it just blasts it apart. Using a capacitor and touching the wires together would work, i don't have any though.

Electron beam welding in a vacuum (or laser) wouldn't contaminate the bond, but in theory any voltages generated by contamination cancel out so shouldn't actually matter - in theory.
