I was rather curious about the asymmetry of the windings on the 3 poles in the photo.

It does not really look like a trifilar coil... and seems quite odd...
Any ideas are welcome.... =)

it doesnt look like a real transformer, maybe they mean "transform", as in multipler?

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. The quadrupole magnets have 4 windings as seen in the pictures. It's a cool laser though.
