Test equipment review section

I know myself and quiet a few other people starting out in this hobby have asked, "whats a good DMM, O-scope, Function generator." or other test device.

I realize that people could do a simple search except if you type in oscilliscope or oscope or even scope, you get 500+ results and they are spread through out the forum, at some point you would come across what you are looking for, but more often then not people will make a post to ask the question.

So I was wondering if there could either be a sticky, a wiki or even a dedicated section, that would be focused on suggested "lab" equipment but not what people think are the best devices, but also a complete or at least thorough review of the item.

To give an idea of what companies to be aware of and which companies produce good equipment, nad at minimum help people get a good idea what kinda of details to look for when they look for a peice of equipment, if they can't afford a Fluke type 108k or waverider 6000 scope.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I think this is a really good idea.
It could be for all kinds of equipment: soldering irons, DMMs, even companies or eBay sellers.
I think that it would help people to start out in the hobby, my first soldering iron was a cheap thing from eBay that had an interesting feature - every metal part was live!
In a slightly related question, are Antex irons any good? And is 25W enough for medium duty work(tinning 2.5mm copper)?
