Is that one that will be used for 'medical' purposes? smile

Cool photo EVR...

EVR can y put the link for the thread where you describe this photo making technique? I remember that I read about this but i lost the text.

I think he just left the camera in place, took several pics with different breakout points and merged them after that.

Note the glowing between metal pipes around coil and earth. I wonder if it is only when arc strikes them or it is result of capacitive coupling..?

suprised WOW! I'm afraid for all my technology when I run my coil 20feet from my house, how well do your electronics hold up to that kind of electrical noise? BTW that is one of the most amazing photos I'v seen.

The glowing between those pipes and the carpet only occurs during arcing. They pipes are actually PVC scrap wrapped with aluminum tape. And its actually only one pipe, i moved it around from shot to shot.

As far as the technique goes . . .

1. Take several shots on a tripod using same exposure. Take as many as you need.

2. Load the images in Photoshop

3. Copy each image, and paste is as a NEW LAYER in photoshop.

4. Now, for EACH layer, use the LIGHTEN BLEND method on the layer palette. This will basically keep the background unchanged and only add the "light" colors (i.e. arcs) in the image

5. Once its complete, then FLATTEN layers and export to your favorite image format.

Wow! Did you get any little burns on the walls from that? I had a little SGTC striking the wooden footboard of my bed once, it lit up orange but no visible burns. It was nowhere near that power, though!

Thanks. Yeah, i get lots of little pinhole burns in the drywall. No big deal since this is just a storage room. As far as electronics go, i actually have a computer right behind me in those photos which is about 10 feet back from the coil. Never have any problems.

Thats amazing. When I run my 1.3kW sgtc it plays havoc with the phones and the TVs. I am too afraid to leave a computer pluged in while im coiling.

Well TV's I made to receive interference since the antenna, while computers have a nice big metal case around them that probably helps like a faraday case to protect them from the RF.

And to EVR, Sweet Coil and pic! I just got into SSTC's and I can see what a fun hobby this will be!

Hi,

Be careful there! A number of folks have started fires inside walls and ceilings. The drywall screws tend to carry the arc currents into the wood inside the wall. I have heard of like four fires started that way!!

Bill Beaty and David Rieben (a fireman) were two I remember... Bill's place was rented cheesey , but Dave had to scramble up to the attic with a bucket of water...

But cool picture!!!!

Cheers,

Terry

I see someone beat me to it, but I was going to mention I have trouble enough getting pinhole burns in my fingers.. what do you do when they're all over the WALL? ^^

Are you going to mention the (approximate) exposure time underneath the shot in your publication?

Planning on taking any power-arcing/banjo-string shots to a fixed ground, as well? =)

How come we can see through you?

Photoshop isn't foolproof..

Another typical comment by Jim. Well, firstly, i would invite you to explore how photoshop uses different blend methods when combining images. In this case, its the LIGHTEN blend method.

When two images are combined in photoshop using the LIGHTEN blend method, the program firsts looks at the color information in each channel and selects the base or blend color - whichever happens to be lighter - as the resultant color. Pixels darker than the blend color are replaced, and pixels lighter than the blend color do not change.

Now, you with all your intelligence, and since you brought up the comment, why don't you tell us why you can see through me in the image when using this blend type.

And BTW, i don't know of any software programs which *are* foolproof. Perhaps you with all your wisdom could enlighten us into which programs you would consider foolproof.

I can't see through Dan. He's sitting at the back of the room behind the arcs. Excellent pics! smile I would be worried about starting a fire though, for the reasons Terry mentioned.

Thanks. They were fun to take! I guess Jim was talking about the second image where my left arm is somewhat transparent. . .

Omg, I see it now. The crazy thing is, it looks as if you can see your leg through where your arm would have been. Philadelphia Experiment!!!! wink
