Wow, awesome coil as usual Christopher Robin. That is really nice spark length for 2kw also. Good Luck!

I made an error and posted this under Tesla Coil and should go above to add coils here, coils page, sorry.
help Peter can move this for me, ugggg, my bad.

Happens to the best of us wink
Nice looking coil!

Lookin good. Wish i could work with lexan as good as you! Or i think you actually said that was acrylic.

Damn awesome (like all Robin's coils I seen) smile

I also like your acrylic work!

The acrylic is my favorite part. I hate using that stuff and yet you make it look so easy. I'm jelous. shades I am especially jelous of that nice collar you have over the primary. Does that prevent sparks arcing from the primary to the middle of the secondary, or is it meant to stop direct primary strikes? I know I have had issues when I increase coupling I tend to get primary to mid secondary strikes. A nice acrylic collar might do the trick. Hmmmm.
One more question while we are at it. Where or how did you make those toploads? They look great!

The plexy is ¼ inch thick for the primary cover and is as thin as I could find so the plexy hopefully will not dampened the primary field.

Plexiglas should be completely transparent to any fields created by the primary coil. Doesn't matter how thick it is.

At DRSSTC frequencies, transparent yes... but admittedly into the tens of megahertz, you'd worry about dielectric losses though, right?

Well you have my 1.8kw 811a coil beat in spark length (75 inches vs 5 inches) and in plexi (scratched up, half missing, and holes that don't line up regardless of which way you look at them) and in reliability (the mot smokes enough to set of my smoke detector after about 30minutes)... Guess it is time to make a new one wink Just after I get the server fixed and my room clean and the Nd:YAG obliterator going...

Excellent as always tongue

Beautiful as always. Like the overlay too. What amazes me most is that I've never seen any crap in the background in any of your pictures. No dead semis, no jumpers, no miscellaneous burnt objects, no nothin'. And the floor's always swept. How is that possible??? cheesey

Anyway, looks great.

Yes, how do you have time to do all this, and tidy up too confused

That's cool, I used to have the same "Problem". I call it a problem because I'd just rush around full of nervous energy until I got ill from stress, and then when I got better I'd repeat the process. I think I calmed down a bit as I got older, and I also got into meditation and found that helped a lot.

To go a bit further back on topic, what's the resonant frequency of your coil? Mine is 220kHz. I'm wondering, because you have a .5uF tank cap, and I have a .05, but both our coils seem to be doing OK smile I tried increasing mine to .1, but that seemed to make it too fierce. It would try to flash over and burn up its secondary even more than usual.

Well, my brother was giving me a hard time last weekend about my garage. It is to dang clean!

Yes, nothing is where you need it!! Note the "special" layout of my lab:

Link2

Everything I have done in the last few years is right there in plain sight ready to go!! The 70's era disco carpet is sort of a trademark for me. But you can't really see it anymore tongue

My work bench has all the tools right at hand too:

Link2

No one will mess it up since everyone is afraid to go near it cheesey

You may also want a raw parts storage area like I have:

Link2

You do have to be careful while crawling in there not to gash yourself on anything.

I even have all my old stuff on the old bench which is now abandonded since I can reach it anymore:

Link2

I recently added a new work surface and gaming table so I could move the work closer to the computers:

Link2

I also keep the little milling machine are ready to go at a moments notice:

Link2

Hopefully, this tips will show you how to "properly" organize things amazed

Cheers,

Terry

lol, that reminds me a bit on my desk.. (wich is actually even worse amazed )

Probably this is 'normal' since it seems that lots of people who mess with electricity around here (including me) are such 'messy', and if I 'clean everything up' I'm lost and I can't work or find something until I make mess again. :p

Hm, isn't just 50nF way too small for a DRSSTC of such size..?

I remember Steve Ward stuffing big caps in to decrease tank impedance and peak current.

Porbably isn't that important as I tought..
