Spark Gap Transmitter

I want to build a spark gap transmitter for short experimental runs. I dont want this for malicious purposes but, to see just how bad they really are in terms of noise.

How can I get away with running it for about two minutes? Clearly I will not run it at my residence or near anyone else so they arent disturbed by it.

I want to be able to use my 7500v 30mA transformer. I think I will use the schematic that wikipedia provides.

Also, arent tesla coils considered spark gap transmitters?

Just build a spark-gap TC, but leave out the secondary. The resonant frequency of the primary circuit will be the center transmitting frequency. Each time the spark gap fires, it will emit a noisy burst at that frequency.

if I were you, test in a faraday cage... assuming the frequency is not really high, just use chicken wire and make a cube large enough for it, and have your coil and signal probe inside of it (of course, do no be in it yourself)...

There is a circuit diagram and photographs of a tested and working spark gap tx here:
