Primary Size

I tried using Tesla Coil Cad to estimate my primary coil size but it exceded the allowed size. My secondary is 4.53" Dia, 37.992" in hight. What would be the optimum tap and total size? (Also a program suggestion would be good) Thanks.

You need to provide a bit more info than 4.53" diameter and 37" height to calculate the primary tap and size.

Try changing the size of your tank cap in the program, lowering and raising this value _should_ change the number of primary turns required.

Primary Capacitance: 0.0053uF
Primary Resonant Frequency: 96.81
Secondary Coil Diameter: 115.00mm
Primary Conductor Diameter:9.50mm
Turn to Turn Spacing: 9.50mm
Space between the Sec. and the inside turn of the primary: 62.50mm

I've been using teslamap for my calculations. unfortunitly I dont have a link to it.

0.005uF is such a small capacitor, you're going to end up with a lot of primary turns to make it tune to your large secondary. Because you specified a large turn-to-turn spacing, the primary will be gigantic and that's probably why the program is complaining.

Try thinner primary wire and a smaller turn-turn spacing. Or a bigger capacitor which would probably be a good idea anyway, since you have a big secondary coil, you'll want lots of energy for big mean looking sparks.
