Well the archives (at the bottom of the main menu) go back to the the beginning of '02. If you go in the announcements board you can follow what was going on as a community...

I think the history of 4hv is basically this:

Sam Barros's Powerlabs made high voltage, HERF, and coilguns look cool. A bunch of people who didn't like the Powerlabs forum ventured off to start their own forum called "Fulmen Labs". This mutated over several years into the 4hv forum we are on now, changing colour seeral times (some say the original had the colour scheme of a cinnamon altoids tin) It's basically been a bunch of school kids, college and university students, plus some old farts like myself who should know better wink getting together to hang out, build cool projects, and have a good time burning out thousands of electronic components.

It also works as an educational tool when more experienced members help out the newbies, which is the main reason why I like it. What with the current sad state of the world, it can be difficult for kids with an interest in electronics to find a real "Elmer".

There have been a few other forums like Bert Hickman's and All Things Tesla, and I have seen 4hv-like forums in other languages. The original Powerlabs forum still exists too, although it's currently down.
