4hv Migratory Junk Box

Chris Russell, Wed Jul 02 2008, 08:06PM

For those not familiar with the concept, you'll want to read this thread: Link2

In short, we're starting a travelling junk box. You can take what you want, add what you like, and send it on to the next person. Who knows what sort of fabulous 4hv junk you might end up with! All this for the cost of a priority mail flat rate box.

Let's start signing up! So far, the participants are:

EDIT: See map for current list of participants.

Anyone else who wants to participate, please let me know. We're going to have it go through the US first, and then on to each major geographical region in turn.

Anyone who would like to participate should use the PM system and send me their address, their name, and if there's anyone they'd absolutely like to be before or after on the list.

For reference, here are the rules of participating:

1) The box will be a flat-rate priority mail box. This allows unlimited weight and makes sure everyone in the US pays the same for shipping - $9.80. Anyone who signs up to receive the box agrees to be responsible for the cost of shipping it to the next person, who will be in the United States - so have $9.80 set aside. The box will be returned to me when it is done with its US rounds and I will pass it on to the next country on the list.

2) Nothing hazardous that could be a problem. This means, as Conundrum said, no mercury switches, no liquids, nothing very fragile, and no lithium batteries or anything that could short out or turn on in transit.

3) Take and add what you want, but try to add something of equivalent or greater value compared to what you took.

4) Whoever gets the box must sign the log book, take the junk they want, add the junk they don't, update the inventory, mail the box to the next person, and make a post here about it.

5) The box should be passed on as soon as possible. Please don't sit on it for a week before sending it to the next person.

6) I will accept the names of everyone who wants to participate, and send each person a private message with the address of the person who is next in line to receive the box. That way we don't need to worry about keeping information in the box updated if anyone changes their mind. Check your private messages before sending the box along, just in case anything has changed.

7) If the box is in bad shape, please replace it. They are free at the post office. You can order them for free at usps.com.

We'd all appreciate it if anyone would like to make a post in this thread as the box reaches each destination. Pictures would be most welcome.

Please use this thread only to post that you received or sent the box, along with pictures if you'd like. Keep the chatting and suggestions limited to the other thread.

The box is currently on it's way to Dave Marshall, in Warner-Robins, GA. Next up is going to be J. Aaron Holmes. I'm going to try to get a map up so you folks can see where it's been and where it's going. If anyone doesn't see their name on the list above, send me a private message as soon as possible.
Re: 4hv Migratory Junk Box
Dave Marshall, Mon Sept 08 2008, 04:00AM

Ok, after a substantial delay on my part, the box will be leaving for J. Aaron Holmes' house on Monday the 8th of September.

I took some pretty good swag out of the box:

The xenon flash tube
The garmin GPS
The LED ring
A couple of the random ICs
The 10 turn, 2k potentiometer
A little of the glow powder
2 of the little neodium magnets

I figure that obligates me to put some good stuff in to replace what I took. I added:

6) 680uF 250v capacitors
1) 600v 300A stud SCR
2) 400v 200A diode packs
2) 20kv(ish?) diode stacks on PCBs
4) small air variable butterfly capacitors
2) aluminum harddrive platters
1) 3 pole, 12 position rotary switch
About 30' of 13awg magnet wire
100ish feet of much thinner (24awg?) magnet wire
2 pairs of matching IR LEDs/phototransistors
Assorted 4000 series logic chips
3 or 4 crystals of assorted frequencies

There is everything required for a 130 joule SCR switched coilgun now in the box, except a coilform.

Dave

Good news! The box is actually en route to its next destination. The bad news is that Dave mailed it off just before a deployment overseas, and didn't have time to do an inventory, so it really will be a mystery as to what's inside.

I hope that's the last prolonged stop the box makes. There are a lot of people looking forward to getting their turn with the box, I'm sure.

Well, poo. Chris, I ought to have read your last post before sealing the box up (again). I didn't take a full inventory either, and probably should have, since the box had developed a few gaps and there were an awful lot of very tiny loose parts bouncing around. I think it quite certain that at least one or two escaped. Anyway, here's my compulsory I-got-the-junk-box post:

Here's the box as it arrived. Could have been in better shape, but nothing was seriously violated, anyway:

Here's a look inside:
DSC01052 Thumb

And here are all the contents spread out:
DSC01056 Thumb

Here are some of the loose bits. Some probably came from one of the bags. Some look like they probably broke off of one of the PCBs. I put them all in a new Ziplock baggy, so now there's a Junk Bag inside the Junk Box wink wink
DSC01055 Thumb

I stole the:
PK-88
680uF 250v capacitors
600v 300A stud SCR
400v 200A diode packs
13AWG magnet wire
one of the air variable capacitors
DSC01062 Thumb

I replaced with:
4x CM600 IGBT bricks
5x PIC 16F688s new in tube
1x 16x2 LCD display new in bag
1x Mark Dunn SISG board, unpopulated
DSC01057 Thumb
DSC01061 Thumb

The CM600's were so big and heavy, I decided to engineer a cardboard tray to keep them from rattling around and destroying the rest of the Junk Box contents:
DSC01059 Thumb
DSC01060 Thumb

...and here's the box, all ready to go again. ALMOST... Look REAL close. Bonus points to whoever sees what I forgot to do. I almost cried when I noticed. Don't reply in this thread! (Answer backwards: .koob gol eht togrof I)
DSC01063 Thumb

Box will be on its way off to Mike tomorrow!

PS: Since I'm giving them away, I can't be a chooser, but if you only plan on using two of the CM600's, do please leave the other two for somebody else. Modifying my packaging job shouldn't be too hard. OTOH, if you plan on using all of them, be my guest smile

Cheers,
Aaron, N7OE

You forgot to put the log book in there. Am i right?
+10. Yes, damn! I was pissed! I had just peeled and stuck the end flaps down. Somehow I managed to tease the flaps apart with a knife and not rip them, but I still covered the thing in packing tape for good measure afterwards.

..., Fri Nov 14 2008, 05:29AM

It arrived safely here at UCSB, and was quite full smile

I didn't manage to bring stuff home on my trip home last weekend, but I had a fair amount of of mazzilli parts, so I added:
(see Link2 for more info about boards--sorry I don't have a better page up yet)
4x to-247 heatsinks
6x IRFP250
3x T130-6 powdered iron cores (one is a little chipped) I would recommend about 200 turns on them for a mazzilli driver, one has 100 turns on it
2x aerovox AFPS (high current pulsed) series 3uf/450vdc caps
1x PF2125-ND 1.2uf 250v cap
10x uf4007 1A/1kv fast diodes
4x 583-R5000F-T 0.2A/5kv fast diodes
~20x 1n5240 10v zener didoes
2x K104a large mazzilli driver boards--these boards had some problems in the manufacturing process one has a big hole in the middle and one has a few missing traces
2x K104b small mazzilli driver boards, these ones are in decent shape but will require a bit of rework (not quite sellable but totally junkbox quality)
~10x medium ESD bags
~20x ESD warning stickers
and a few Krazer 'business' cards
And since I wanted to make sure I added some value to the box
1x ~20mw 405nm USB laser pointer (hastily made a few months ago, whoever takes it might want to build a slightly nicer case for it). Stick it on the end of a USB-B cable and enjoy. If focused it will burn through electrical tape/etc. Do not look into beam! I put it in the maxim sample box with the other sony ps3 optics deck parts.

I took:
1x large UPE capacitor
3x GE 5uf/400v caps
1x microwave oven cap
1x small air variable cap (hehe I have spent too long away from home I am suffering from withdrawal from caps...)
4x E45NK80ZD isotop MOSFETs (muhahahah)
3x small ancient transistors (I don't think I have seen transistors in a clear case, or with wire leads before!)
~20x 470r resistors (just the value I needed!)
1x toggle switch (new reset switch for my gps tracker board)
2x small lenses (one mounted for a CCD camera--just the thing for my ccd camera with a broken lens)
1x 20a breaker (I have a few projects that could use one of those)

Update:

Rather than try to keep several lists updated, the list of participants will be kept on the map. Check the map to see who is participating, if you're interested. If you're not on this map, and you want to participate, send me a private message with your full name and mailing address. Don't post here or anywhere else. My time is limited, and I'm only using my private messages to coordinate the box. I can't skim threads as well.

For anyone concerned about privacy, note that placement on the map is rounded off at low precision, and the only person who will have your address is me, and the person before you on the list.

Note that the box is open to European members. The only requirement is that you'll be responsible for any import taxes, as well as shipping it off to the next person, who will most likely be in another country.

Got the Box today.
Man that is one crammed to the max little box full of goodies.
I have updated the list with what I jacked, and what I added.
I left the CMH600's in there, because while it was very cool to hold, I will probably never use them.
My camera is also on the fry, so I will post pics of what I took later, but if you use your imagination, you'll probably not have to work too hard to come up with the fact that I took very little.

Box arrived just a minute ago!! Wow, haven't been this excited....ever. Pics and update of the items will be later today, probably have it shipped out tomorrow, if not than the next day for sure.
Re: 4hv Migratory Junk Box
Arcstarter, Mon Dec 15 2008, 10:46PM

Well, finally going to send it out. I am very sorry for the delay, and the fact that i did not add much.

The box was in sad condition, made me cry a little :P. It was torn, bulged and stuff, so i got a new box. A little plastic box inside was broken, and a bunch of ferrite toroids and other ferrite stuff was cracked and just floating around the box. I took them all out of course. I made a new 'box' for the CM600's, made with a piece of cardboard wrapped tightly around them and then taped shut, and then i stuffed newspaper tightly into the sides and taped that up. Not perfect, but alright. Also, i re-wrapped the bipolar transistors in the bubble wrap, and taped it shut. Did some other stuff not worth mentioning, like repackaging stuff and putting stuff in the big ziplock. I also took the mounting bracket off of one of the MOC's that Ultra7 put in the box to make room.

Anyway, what i took:

The 4 g27n120bn IGBT's, 2 irfp250's, 10 uf4007's, 2 of the screw down terminal things that mount on a pc board, 2 small black heatsinks to make room, the 2 Dale 1kohm resistors, two small spools of wire and the 4 very tiny magnets.

What i added (not really much of anything good, could not fit any of the good stuff):

A bag of random small capacitors good for timing or decoupling, 3 sk065k scr's which are 1kv and 65/70 amps continuous and 950amps for 10ms and worth something like 7 bucks each, 24 10megohm resistors for tesla coil tank cap bleeders/balancers, a bag of 10 assorted crystal oscillators, 2 SOIC ucc37322 9 amp mosfet drivers, and a 650pf 20kvdc capacitor from Chris Hooper, which he got from RFparts.com and the 500pf 20kvdc caps that look identical from there are worth i think 35 bucks.

I know it was not much, but if someone thinks i should, i will send 3 MOC's and 2 computer grade lytics that are i think 200vdc and 1400uf to the next person in line that wants them at my expense. I also have more stuff i wanted to add, but i just can not fit anymore. The box is bulged again, and even though i got it today, it looks like someone set off a few tons of tnt in it. It is so full, i picked it up and shook it and nothing moved at all. Seriously! Ask DaJJHman when he gets it.

The first pic is all the broken ferrite pieces, the second is the complete contents of the box, after i took my stuff, third and forth is the CM600 box(if you can call it that) that i made in 3 1/2 seconds, fifth is the old junk box(left) and the new one i got(right), sixth is what i added.

Sorry, the pictures that i have of what i took will not download, because my camera is a piece of junk. But you can pretty much just imagine what i took.

Hon1nbo, Fri Dec 19 2008, 03:23AM

it arrived today, and I already took my new stuff out, put my old stuff in, took pics, updated the log book, and will send it out tomorrow... and arcstarter, how this box did not rip in half during transport remains a mystery to me lol

what I took:
2x CM600's (sorry, but I have big plans for them since I am on winter break... ^_^)
2x 1800uF 450VDC caps
small panel mount mic jack connector
disk flyback (never got the one I ordered from Logan, so I took it)

a scrap Mazzili driver board (one of the ones with the smaller traces peeling off)
1x unused copper clad board
and a small homemade PCB for what appears to be an RF project

What I put INTO the box:
1x 7kV micro Transformer (the thing is about one inch cubed)
1x CCFL Driver
1x 200 mw, 808nm Laser Diode w/ technical data in Antistatic bag
1x unpopulated I/O board I got two of when betatesting a dual core arduino board... (data: HERE)
at least 4 feet of Nitinol Wire
1x 25 button Membrane Keypad
1x five by eight red/green/orange LED Matrix
2x small, LED dot matrix displays (supports two characters on one, and four on the other)

1x DLP Chip and Driver Board and Peltier Cooler from a working NEC SX-10000 Light Engine (3 DLP chip, 1080 HD Projector... so I can spare at least one of the boards).. in an oversize, resealable AntiStatic bag

2x paired RF Transmitter/receiver (NOTE: on these units I do not know which transmitters/receivers are which, and the sets use two DIFFERENT frequencies! take both, or know how to check then it won't matter though)...
1x Mark Generator "starter kit" (this was for sale on this board, but no one made an offer on my stuff, so in the box it goes) - the assembly consists of twelve 25 pF, 10kV caps in parallel via 1megOHM resistors and is on two terminal blocks for easy adjustment of the gaps

1x dual 7 segment display
1x moc
1x dc motor
1x stepper motor

Re: 4hv Migratory Junk Box
Billybobjoe, Sat Feb 07 2009, 04:03PM

OK, got the box yesterday and it is very dense.

I added:
6x - small heatsinks (some w/transistors attached)
1x - Dale 130 watt 1500 ohm power resistor
1x- coaxial lightning/surge protector
1x - RCA style plug receptacle
1x - small clip on microphone
3x - small DC motors with gears
1x - 0-19 selector switch
1x - "rope" style 120v heating element (gets warm at 12v)
1x - pot-style flash heating element (120v but will supposedly melt itself if not regulated or without a load)
2x -12v DC brushless fans
2x - snap on ferrite chokes
1x - lighted LED momentary switch
2x - 131k MOVs (yellow)
2x - huge photoresistors
1x - high current momentary switch
1x - spade terminal fuse holder w/20A fuse

I took:
4x - RHRG7560 diodes (still 4 left)
2x - mica mounting insulators
1x - small heatsink
1x - key switch
1x - 10 meg resistor package
2x - small relays
?x - A few random small capacitors/resistors from "the bag" (you'll see what I mean)
1x - photoflash board
1x - HV diode string
1x - peltier module

I also (for the sake of room) took out a "board" if you will that had an electrolytic capacitor partially embedded in a black epoxy resin. There were some resistors showing through it but they could not have been salvaged and I could not get the capacitor off of it (it was approximately the value of a photoflash cap and there are a few of those still in the box).

There is NO free space in the box (and there wasn't when I got it) - someone needs to take the two larger electrolytic capacitors.

Also that DLP projector module is awesome looking - I hope someone can get it to work.

I will send it out as soon as I know who to send it to . . . I just PM'd Chris Russell to we'll see . . .

EDIT - UPDATE - I sent it out today (2/9/09).
Re: 4hv Migratory Junk Box
Chris Russell, Sat Feb 07 2009, 08:57PM

Apologies, I got wrapped up in the whole server restore thing, and fixing the wiki. The map update completely slipped my mind. I'll have a big map update ready tomorrow evening at the latest. Everyone who hasn't received the box yet (and Billybobjoe) will be getting a PM at that time telling them who is getting the box after them.

If you're still deciding if you want to participate, now's the time! I intend to plot out all the remaining recipients on the list with this update (about half a dozen, from the looks of it). If nobody else chimes in, the box will go back to me, and I'll document the whole box and scan the logbook. From there, it'll either get passed on to Europe/Canada, or stay with me until someone requests it be sent out again.

Staci, Fri Feb 27 2009, 01:40AM

The box showed up today in good shape. It's super heavy and not an inch to budge inside. Lots of fun stuff going around:

I took:
Big ChunkyMonkey SCR
Heater cup
1 heatsink
1 keypad
2 microswitches
some of the PICs

I added:
1 5000W custom planar transformer from a welder I designed. Ping me for the datasheet.
30 Kingbright Chameleon full color RGB pixels in DIP package
4 LEM LA-205-P +/- 300A current sensors
100 pieces of 1N4004 (approx)
4 pieces 3x5 proto board
10x 40CPQ60 Schottkys
8X HGTG40N60A4D from Mountaintop PA. No hole , with the diode co-packaged there was no room :(

Tootles!

Bust_A_Cap hasn't reported receiving the box, nor is he signing in to 4hv.org. Hopefully it's just a case of being too busy combined with spring break. Not much we can do but wait for it to turn up, unless anyone knows how to get in touch with him off-board.

If you check his/her profile (Link2 he hasn't been online for 8 months, I don't think you'll hear from him/her again...
Re: 4hv Migratory Junk Box
Staci, Fri Mar 27 2009, 11:19PM

Wow, 8 months... He's either lost interest or found a MOT whilst it was turned on.

Shall I start another box. I don't mind taking that on as I'm the one that sent the box to /dev/null

Backyard Skunkworks, Sat Mar 28 2009, 12:53AM

You can email Bust_A_Cap at sam_ham88 AT hotmail.com a little googling shows he's an ME student, so it is quite possible he is just busy.
Re: 4hv Migratory Junk Box
David.Lightman, Sat Mar 28 2009, 01:01AM

This is very disappointing. If a new Junk-Box is started, maybe we'll have to confirm that the person is still interested in receiving it and that we have the current address just prior to shipping. With all the foreclosure and so many of members being school age folk it is surprising that this the first time it has gotten lost.

I was thinking about putting together an "RF Project Box". For those of us who are also interested in RF Specific.

Only allowing long term or "hard-core" members to participate might be a good idea. This system is based on trust, making someone with some history on the forum much less likely to abandon the community for a box of junk. Or you could make the new members pay a damage deposit. tongue

It went to an off-campus address. Seeing as how he's not answering email or private messages, we can only guess as to what may have happened to the box. It's likely he's no longer there, and the current residents dishonestly kept the box rather than forwarding it or returning it, probably opening it in hopes that something valuable was inside. Keep an eye on eBay. If stuff from the box turns up, we can involve the local authorities. From here on out, each person on the list will have to PM the next person, and confirm that the mailing address is correct and that the person is still interested in getting the box.

In the meantime, nothing we can do but start another. We've got one volunteer. Anyone else interested in getting another box going?

Send it my way. Promise I won't hold on to it this time, and seeing as I'm prepping for a major move, I've got a ton o' junk to unload on some poor fool.

Edit: Heck, *I'll* start it and send it to Staci. Perhaps lock and remove the sticky on this thread and start a new one to reconstruct the list of participants?
I'll have the box ready to go by Monday or Tuesday.

Re: 4hv Migratory Junk Box
ShawnLG, Wed Apr 15 2009, 10:59PM

The box arrived here just before easter. It was bulging and heavy.

Stuff I taken:
5 x PIC microcontrollers.
Some capacitors and crystals.
Light engine.
Voice recorder/playback IC.
Some ICs.

There was a lot of broken stuff like the ferrites. They went to the bin.

Stuff I added:
2 x 30Khz ultrasonic transducers.
12 x 2N7000 small signal MOSFET, six are SMT type.
2 x dual gate fet.
Tons of various general purpous transistors.
Tons of neon lamps.
200 x Blue 3mm LEDs (2 bags of it)
7 x memory backup capacitors(various sizes).
5 x HGT1N30N60A4D mini brick IGBTs.
1 x working HP photosmart 612 digital camera. (only take this if you do not have a camera to take pictures of your experiments or your camera sucks.:))
1 x hammer.
1 x adjustable wrench.
1 x HV insulator.
My microwave oven diode collection.
14 x IR PIN diodes.
Some ICs.
2 x 13.560Mhz crystals(SMT type), great for 13.56Mhz tesla coils.
1 x 10.140Mhz crystal. Can be used to pick up Chris's QRSS beacon.
Solar powered radio.
2x16 LCD module.

I put many of the loose components in some plasic bins. This shold help prevent them from getting smashed douring shipping. Reuse these bins for the HV migratory box.

The matching PC board and the 20w amp did not fit in the box. I wanted to also add an AC flyback but there is no room in the box. Maybe next time...

The box will be shiped tomorrow.

-1x 350V 1300uF 'lytic with 20W 10kohm bleeder

I've also compiled a comprehensive inventory of almost everything in the box as of today:
]gimboj_inventory.txt[/file]

I will be going to the post office saturday morning to get it sent out. I put some nice stuff in to make up for my delay. Again except my deepest apologies .

Re: 4hv Migratory Junk Box
Plasma Lover, Mon Aug 31 2009, 11:42PM

I received the Junk Box this morning in fair to poor condition and, since it makes her feel better, I allowed my sister to open the box. Needless to say, my seventeen year old sister is careless enough to destroy the box and, now, I will be replacing the box.

I will do my best to send it out to Chris Russell as soon as possible, though my father's work schedule is not convenient.

I will be sending the box out as soon as possible. I have figured out what I am taking and giving and am now taking inventory of the entire contents.

Re: 4hv Migratory Junk Box
Plasma Lover, Thu Oct 22 2009, 07:11PM

Hello Everyone,

I'm very apologetic for the inconvenience I have caused. I have been in the hospital for most of the past month. I was lucky enough to catch strepthroat, as well as, more recently, acquire an abscess behind my right tonsil. I recently had it drained and have begun taking anti-biotics, however I am having trouble sleeping. This week is the first week that I have decided to go back to school and my parents agreed that it was okay. The fact is that I have been falling asleep in class and have been sent out of class twice already this week, and was pulled out of school at noon on Monday. The anti-biotics are disgusting, if it makes you feel any better. It is liquid 'cleocine' and you may look it up to see reports of its flavor if you really want to see how horrible it is. ;)

When I get home, today, I will be working on getting the Junk Box assembled and getting the things I would like to contribute collected, as well as taking inventory and pictures of what remains, what I will have contributed, and what I have taken. I will also be labelling components, as well as re-packaging them in order to prevent spillage within the junk box. Some of the anti-static baggies have become a bit worn and have begun to spread their contents throughout my room.

Arcstarter, you can vouch for me in that I haven't been on Windows Live Messenger in nearly a month and I haven't spoken to you in any manner for over a month.

I truly apologize, everybody. I would appreciate a PM with the address of the next recipient of the Junk Box and I will do my best to get it sent out by next weekend (my parents went to Las Vegas until Tuesday of next week, and my dad works nights).

Thank you for your patience,

Sincerely, your friend and fellow human,

Christopher

Of course; I will make sure to 'lysol' all of the sensitive components, as well as sterilize them with isopropyl alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, acetone, mineral spirits, bleach, muriatic acid and sodium hydroxide. I look forward to sending the toxic 'box' of mush to the next recipient.

If anyone can get in touch with Plasma Lover off-board, please do so. We haven't heard anything about the box for quite some time, and he is not reading his private messages.
Re: 4hv Migratory Junk Box
GalliumMan, Sat Dec 26 2009, 12:58AM

Hi,

I know I've just joined but i have been following these threads for a couple of years now.
Would anyone mind me starting a new box over in the UK?
I've no problem it going intercontinental as well, but i thought it would be good to have two running at the same time. As the turn around of the single box can be a little slow, especially over here.
I'm quite willing to start it off with lots of goodies.

As an aside - I'd like to say thanks to Steve Conner, and Steve Ward for giving me the courage and inspiration to pursue coil building, your websites are inspirational - my wife does not thank you however! BIG ( over 6 foot high) Solid State coils using IGBT's are VERY hard to build for the first time - i'm sure it gets easier?

Merry Xmas,

Gordon.

hey, there are a few other uk members that might be interested as well as some non-members.

feel free to start a new thread with people interested in participating, add me to the list :)

mainly have stepper motors, drivers, laser bits, etc.
(anyone want a spare FPGA board?)

4HV supporters, patrons and members,

The following was a response to the message sent to me recently by Chris Russell; I have been grounded from my phone and computer for the past three weeks, hence the delayed response.

"I had the Junk Box in my room with its boxes, its SCRs and a couple more things (static-proof baggies - with 'junk' - and the like). On my floor, in an old Folgers coffee can, I had all of the loose parts, such as the 1N4004s, the germanium diodes and the UCC2732(1/2)s. That kind of thing had been placed in the Folgers can to prevent it from being lost. Well, when my parents were upset with the state of my room, my dad took it into his own hands while I was away for the weekend. When I came home, my floor was clean. Everything with some purpose which he could see had ended up on my bed and would need to be sorted through (by me) when I got home. Everything with no purpose, in his mind, such as old plastic cups from baseball games (memorabilia), random high-voltage wire (both GTO-15 and flyback-style wire, of lengths totaling greater than fifteen feet), random hook-up wire and, to my dismay, the Folgers can. He even had thrown away my microwave oven capacitors, NST core (with intact primary winding), ferrite cores (including one which cost me $100; ask RP181...it was a behemoth) and my first secondary (which gave poor performance, but which had sentimental value).

I still have a few things, but my room has been cleaned out and I'm slowly re-accumulating parts. I'm trying to get as many things as I can to make up for the missing items, but it all cost too much... The capacitors, the diodes, all the ferrites (re-wrapped in tissue paper to prevent damage...a waste of time...). I don't know what to do, and I am the kind of person who fears confrontation. I simply didn't respond; I shied away and tried to pretend that nothing had happened. I hid the log book fro myself in my bookshelf and went to the post office and got a new flat-rate shipping box; inside, I put the cases, but they didn't even nearly fill the box up...

If you want to kick me, go ahead. If you want money, I have none. If you want a formal apology, though it would be embarrassing, I would be more than happy to oblige, and if you wanted for me to send everything I have that will fit and be of use, I would be happy to. Though, there's not much."

Chris advised that I post this here, though I am embarrassed to do so and, because of this, quite hesitant. However, I realize that I have accepted a responsibility, been given trust over a possession and betrayed that trust. It is now my duty to face the consequences and deal with the ill affects of my actions.

I apologize to all whom I have offended; I apologize to those whom I have been dishonest to and I apologize for my absence and lack of contact. I truly hope that we might find a way to correct this and that I may be able to return to the community and, once again, be a participating, contributing member.

Conundrum, Mon Jan 04 2010, 11:38PM

ouch, that sucks. surely he must have realised some of the stuff was important...
its hardly fair to blame Christopher for this, if anything its just bad timing.
best bet is to send it to the next person on the list with a note to index the contents.
Chalk this one down to experience, I know what its like to have stuff "tidied".

Re: 4hv Migratory Junk Box
Plasma Lover, Tue Jan 05 2010, 04:43PM

While it may be unfair to blame me 100%, it's also unfair to the following recipients for there to be fewer than expected included parts.

Surely, there must be something which I can do to make reparations in this regard.

Re: 4hv Migratory Junk Box
Conundrum, Tue Jan 05 2010, 07:02PM

hmm... well i'd send it to the next recipient with the logbook and an explanatory note, and whatever spare parts you don't need. i sent in the uk junkbox such diverse items as a broken Minidisk player (has neat optics etc) so something along those lines could be useful.

to be fair I have a shedload (!) of stuff that i can't get rid of, too useful to throw away but takes up space. Mainly broken flat panels etc as well as another two MD recorders and numerous PS3 laser blocks etc (beam splitters/combiners, micro lenses, unbelievably small steppers etc) meant to include in junkbox but ran out of space. If you let me know who to send it to I can, with a note to add it to the junkbox when they receive it.

on a side note, does anyone here need any microstepping drivers? i meant to include some but forgot (again!)
the catch is that they need a double sided PCB which is awkward to make.

also have some press & peel and no laser printer. Any takers?

Chris Russell, Fri Jan 29 2010, 06:14PM

I've asked for the junk box to be returned to me, so we can attempt to revitalize the project. This thread will be locked for now, as the junk box won't be going anywhere until I can get some worthwhile junk back in it.
