Chris,
I have made up my mind, 2009 is the year when I will attend the leading teslathon in the US, The Western Winter Teslathon.
Apart from shooting sparks,
I want to rev up a harley, I want to fire a 38 in a corral, I want to buy a hat that will start a fight in a Texas bar...
And see the grand canyon, monument valley as well as the boulder dam.
I want to check out if those diners I saw on film really exist.
My wife is coming too, and we have 2 weeks to do good with.
Untill then, cheers, Finn Hammer

Hahaha! Rattle snake for dinner! I can hardly write this, the drool is flooding my keyboard. I am on 100%, make a reservation right now!
Man, The wild west sure sounds exciting.

I also plan on attending WWT-09, and really hope you can make it. It would be great to meet you in the flesh after all these years. WWT-08 was absolutely spectacular, and WWT-09 should be even better. If you're drooling at the thought of a steaming plate of rattlesnake, wait to you see Henry's lab/workshop!

Is this Teslathon open to everyone or do you need to have an amazing working tesla coil? I live in southwestern Colorado and might be able to make it... but I don't have an impressive tesla coil... I just want to see all the other amazing ones in person!

Yes, the Teslathon is open to all, as there are a lot of people who do not build coils but love sparks. We had three people come last year from the local power company that just wanted to see sparks and enjoy the company. Yes please come as more 4HV members, the better the group picture and get to enjoy meeting members. Every member I have meet in person has been a great experience and looking forward to meeting all 4HV members some day!
Working on Shirt design now and will post once Print shop send me pics.
Hope to see you there indeed.
Rgs,

BTW already had six 4HV members RSVP! Hope more comes indeed! Hint Hint Chris R!
Hahaha Thank goodness. Make sure you don't chnge your mind and leave, that would be devastating. I mean seriously, the world has a tendency to implode when people named Chris stop talking on places called 4hv.
I would like to rsvp, but i am not so sure i can come yet. BTW, thought you should know, when i spell checked RSVP it came up as versa :P.

I'm the one that contacted you about bringing the 10kva, so far the only limitation is the ballasts. I've ran it at 20kva for about 10 seconds before the ballasts get pretty warm, amazing though.. :P
20j per shot at 240bps.
That's great to hear that the Discovery channel might be showing up. I'll be sure to whip up these SSTCs and the audio modulated VTTCs, possibly a couple DRs.
Good stuff,
Thanks,

hi chris,
i have done a few things for discovery over here in the UK. they have quite a bit of experience working with Tesla coils. i have only worked with UK directors of course but their production values are very high and they should be able to get some good footage. did a shoot for them a couple of months ago called raging planet 2. should be out sometime next year. got some really good slomo shots of bark being blown off a tree with an exploding wire cap bank. would love to come but its along swim from the UK,then there's the walk as well:-D
cheers

Arizona Teslathon Announcement
Greetings,
It is my pleasure to announce the fourth annual Western Winter Teslathon here in Arizona. This years’ focus will be on VTTC coils as Dr. Spark will be auditioning the mother of all tube coils….Quadzilla, a beauty indeed to behold! Of coarse, we expect all types of coils in the line-up. This years challenge is “He who has the oldest VTTCâ€..the oldest so far is an old 811A “rat coil†built in 1979…still running with JAN WWII vintage tubes!
Lots of solid state, spark gap and music modulated coils will be displayed as well as other interesting HV apparatus. If you’ve got it, bring it!
As always, this is an RSVP only event. Please RSVP at:

All,
I flew all the way from Denmark to attend this Thon, but frankly, take it from me, It sucked big time.
Just kidding :o)
The audio modulation was awesome, the realtime sax played trough Dr. Woo's modulator on Dr. Spark's bipolar was fantastic. Santana came trough real clear too.
We had a blast, lots of celebs around, and This sure is the 'thon to go to.
Everybody are going to go potty over the SS stuff, so here is a pic of Henry's old classical tesla coil
Cheers, Finn Hammer
Arh hell, you all want it, so here goes:

After a full day of driving home (back to CA) I can now post a whole bunch of pics. The thon was fantastic. (it was my first one I've been to) Enjoyed watching Chris' bipolar. They had it hooked up to a saxaphone!!! Quadzilla was awesome, probably the "coolest looking" coil I've seen. The power from Quadzilla was incredible. Chris practically melted the end of a screwdriver which served as the breakout point. Fatboy was incredible as well. That is one powerful coil. I was stunned at how long those streamers were, and I don't even think Chris had it a full power either. I learned a whole lot too!
Comments go down the page in order.

As expected, WWT '09 was stunningly spectacular.
Where else on the planet could you get the full experience of seeing/hearing/smelling/feeling the world's largest audio-modulated bipolar DRSSTC, the world's post powerful VTTC, one of the world's biggest & best performing unipolar DRSSTCs, a huge pig-fed RSG coil (with the world's biggest spun aluminum toroid in TC service), and dozens of other coils and HV displays of all types and sizes, all under one roof?
Many thanks to Drs. Spark and Hankenstein, their spouses, and all the other contributors who worked very hard to make this world-class event possible.
Regards,
Herr Zapp

Excellent video Dr. Hank Thanks for starting the video with my coil!
Yes, Henry’s lab has become to small for FATBOY as at full power it goes for the 20 foot ceiling insulation!
Good news however, we have booked a School Auditorium, one of those inside baseball thingies with a stage…………..bigger band can play next year.
Yes, it was slightly packed in there. It would be great to have a larger place.
Book your flights early and save mucho $$$$$$$$$$$!
I'll be there for sure next year. It was really funny how two days after the Teslathon, people were saying "I can't wait for next year." One week after the Teslathon, Chris posted his variac project and said "Time to work on projects for the WWT 2010." The funny thing is, even I have the WWT 2010 in mind when I work on coils now. The Teslathon definitely adds more meaning to our projects now, as it is a place to show them off indeed. I won't be *slapping* any coils together now either. After seeing the work of others, namely Chris (big surprise there), I have decided that quality is the all around winner. (if one can afford it of course) Taking the extra time to make the coil beautiful and of top quality makes it safer, yields better results, and earns more respect from fellow coilers. Its an all around winner.
Good luck to all those who are working on projects for the WWT 2010!
