corona problems

i hooked up an older ac flyback to a 555 driver and i heard tons of corona hissing but i couldent find were it was coming from so i turned out the lights and ran it again and i notised that there was corona coming off the primary coil i had wound and it started to arc to the core. i immidiately shut it off so no damadge was done to anything but anyway how can i stop this from happening and why is this happening in the first place.

Well, the primary probably wasn't the thing that was arcing, it was the secondary. The secondary might have arced through its insulation and onto the core and then to the primary wire/circuitry.
Try just wrapping a bunch of electrical tape around the core and then put the winding on top of that.

That can't be the problem because when i measure resistence between the hv out and either side of the core i dident get any readings so that cannot be the problem.

If you measure resistance between two points in air which are 1cm apart from each other, you won't get reading with DMM but somehow arc from your flyback can make it easily :)
