iPod problems

ive been using my moms comp for my i pod music, but there is a problem, her memory is running out, and i have a comp but when i plug my ipod in it says device not recognized. it charges the ipod btw too and i would like to put music on my computer as well and i need to know if i can force install the ipod with the usb? any help is greatly appreciated.

It sounds like the device drivers are missing. You need to install the software that came on CD with the player so the computer can recognize it.

You should be able to go to apple.com and download the drivers. I think it's under the "Support" tab.

i used the disc but it didnt help at all :( all it does is charge the ipod and then i cannot pull it up on a search for the computer

Do you use the USB oder FireWire cable to connect the iPod to your PC? For some reasons, up and downloading music or data doesn't work with FireWire on my desktop PC.

no it is a normal usb port and i think its the high speed, but i tried with all of my usb ports and still nothing.

Do you use winblows or mac? If you use windows, click Start --> Run, then type in "msconfig" (without quotes). You'll see a tab called "Services", click it. On the bottom, there is a checkbox, just above the buttons, labeled "Hide all Microsoft Services", check it, it will make it easier to find the service you are looking for. Now look for a service named "iPodService" by some company named "Apple Computer, Inc." (who are they? wink ) If this service is not there, you will not be able to sync files with your iPod.

well it is there but it says the status is stopped... also do i have to redo the drivers from the web? do i need to download the whole i tunes again, or is there a thing to just download the drivers? i will be looking but to download i tunes (updated) would take 10 hrs(dial up for my comp) Cable for my mom :( well im going to look for drivers in the apple downloads
