Mobile Emp project

Okay I was doing some research to see if this is affordable or feasible. I do have plans out of one of my evil genius books. Here is the site also. They basically work by charging a cap bank and discharging through a piece of wire creating a magnetic pulse. What are the effiecentciesdistances these are effective to? There is not a whole lot of info on these machines. I am also going to write amazing1.com to see what they say. Sorry but I am kinda of ignorant when it comes to making one of these. Thanks for any help.

I saw thing about information unlimited on discovery That thing has a range of about 50FT IIRC. It discharges through a tank circuit that creates pulsed microwaves. They were using it to detonate explosives at a distance. That's about all I now.

The general idea is to use a quite large capacitor with low inherent inductance. So called pulse caps. However these are quite expensive especially the larger ones. If you want something basic, I think a microwave oven should work after some modifications (installing some sort of reflector to focus the beam). This would probably not be a good idea smile. I also saw this small pocket-sized emp-generator in one of "the evil genius"-books. It used a 10kV strip-line capacitor (?) with the tank circuit.

I think the only feasible emp is one that uses heavy explosives, if that. All other attempts that I have seen done by amateurs in the way of an electronic emp seem to have failed.

Is your project going to be a proof of concept or should it be "really working", being able to destroy electronic devices?
For a proof of concept you may try a marx generator discharge near a radio controlled alarm clock. These are very sensitive to emp, which I discovered discharging a cap from an electric fence device (overcharged to 1200V) trough an ignition coil, giving me about 3-4 inch long sparks.
