here's a little project i build today :))) . A mini mini mini ETG working with ~80j :) its triggered with a mini hf-ignition. ( like a teslacoil with just 10 sec. turns, which ionize the air , bla bla bla ... hope u know wot i mean :)(same as in a wig welding set )).
OK now time4pictures ;

I googled for etgs and i found nothing...Is it a coil gun or what? Can you post a circuit diagram and better explain its purpose please?

a etg is an electic thermo gun, which use the mechanical energy of an elko to creat a little explosion and accelerate a projectile like a real gun : )

its in case, portable, 5 sec charging time, 118j and strong enough to shot through paper ;)

i finally finished the electrothermal gun =) after .. ahm over 1 year xD
total stored energy is 200j
the power level is really high, higher then any coilgun i build with the same energy input. i can shot throuh 2 thick tins and can make 1cm deep holes into houswalls (stone)
here some pictures of the plasma flame coming out of the barrel:
(the thing looking like a coil is pulstransformer for the trigger system)
and finally a demonstration vid:

i use nothing as fuel, its a pur plasma etg. the caps are discharged by a little lightning.

I believe that he's using a triggered spark gap switch which is inside the chamber, meaning that all the energy is delivered to the air inside the chamber. With only 200J of (presumably electrolytic) caps, this seems like a good idea.
