Effiency increaser

This is an idea I came up with at work.
First we have an ordinary coil at a barrel. Right beside it we have another coil with its end shorted together with a transient protective device, a small gasfilled gap which is used to protect against large current spikes at a given voltage.
The idea is when the switching device stops conducting, the collapsing magnetic field should build up a high voltage in the second coil, trigger the transient device and hence close the coil circuit, creating a magnetic field that also can give the projectile a small sucking effect. This might also help protect the main coil circuit.

Alternative one could instead parallell the main coil with the coil following, only using the same transient device in between a pin of the following coil and the main coil, thus opening when the negative current spike comes flowing back from the main coil and voltage is higher than it was initially, triggering the transient device and leading the current into the following coil.

I doubt what you describe (if I understand it correctly) would work as described, but we have the technology these days that we can recover the energy using high power transistors. The wiki is terribly underdeveloped for this topology, but this google search should get you started...

Electromagnetic acceleration is fraught with ideas with this forum being a large contributor. I would like to see just a small fraction of them if not come to a successfull pass at least be attempted and then published aftwards as opposed to the current mainstream of "I plan to" state of affairs

I am currently investigating new concepts to try out when building a new coilgun.
Have buildt a high velocity 100m/s using conventional coilguntech, and does not see the point of building another with no new things to try out. I have no possibility to try it out in pratice now, due to beeing away from lab. Anyway, the concept will increasing the length of the coil and close its terminals, move the middle position of the coil and thereby giving the projectile some last energy .
It could be more interesting than leading the back emf back to capacitors, spending the energy at some velocity.
