I prefer larger caps less stages but in the other case all depends on timing.If you have good timing your coilgun rockz :] I prefer one stage only because I'm noob yet :]

It has been somewhat proven that more stages = more efficiency (especially when combined with a 'diagonal halfbridge' for energy recovery), however it is considerably more complex.

If you think you can make the extra stages work, then by all means go for it. But keep in mind that at the 2nd, 3rd, etc stages the projectile is moving faster then the previous stage, so you need a shorter pulse to prevent suck back.

Sorry about the thread-jack, but out of interest what is the highest efficiency anyone has got from a multi-stage? Is it just a little more than single-stage, or a lot more like 10-30% extra? The most I've heard anyone get with a single stage is over 10%.
