new type nst?

I just received an nst I bought. I've heard about these new types. It is model: ja a410el made by johny austin neon. It is 10kv at 30ma. It shuts off when there is no load on the hv side. I hav heard that they use high frequency to produce hv. Is this true? and if it is, would that mean it is not necessary to build a terry filter for tesla coil use?

if it is a high frequency NST, you won't be able to build a conventional spark gap tesla coil with it. You'll have to build a DC topology tesla coil.

Why do you say that? Because of the type of NST it is or because it isn't charging with
60 cycles therefore our usual formulas don't work.
Tesla used a high frequency generator to power his coils, and a spark gap too.

EVR says that for the simple reason that a high-frequency AC current will only minutely charge and discharge the capacitor.

The best way to utilize the transformer is to rectify the output to DC and try a resonant charging topology, or DC topology as Dan suggested.

Oh I see, now. Just did the calc for resonant charging and
see that the cap bank will be quite small therefore not allowing
a very big bang buildup. dead
