hello,

i've decided to construct a mosfet driven flyback. i am using the powerlabs website as my basis for construction. i have an old flyback out of a tv. this is my first encounter with the device. my questions is what is what on this picture.

Thanks,
James

well, there is the core, the secondary, the primary is built in, some wire connected to the pins of the flyback, some rusty metal clamps that held the flyback to whatever, the HV wire, and a componant (most likely a resistor) on the pins. It looks like the core has fractured for some reason.

Yes the core does look fractured, don't worry, just use superglue.
(make the repaired gap as small/neat as possible)

This is quite an old type of flyback which is good.
there is no inbuilt eht diode
(probably was a tubular device a couple of inches long)

Don't worry that the original diode is gone, they were mostly crappy anyway.

Since there is no inbuilt diode a multimeter will tell you which of the pins is connected to the 'earthy' end of the secondary (10's of kOhm expected)

Good luck.
