The K device in Orcad 9.2

All,

I seem to have forgotten how to properly use the coupling device in Microsim/orcad.

I am trying to model a current transformer for a DRSSTC primary feedback controller, and have arrived at a point where I need to get this transformer to reflect reality.
Up to now, I have been using the XFRM_NONLIN/CT-SEC from the breakout library, but I want to use the E34_14_9_3E25 model, because it resembles the core I have available.

This model appears in schematics as a "K" device, and I have forgotten how to refer it to the 3 inductors that that make out the centertapped current transformer.

This project shows some promise, because I have found out of a way to predict the current zero crossing in advance, so that I can initiate the shut off of a big brick, say 900nS before the crossing, and then start to fire the other brick up at perhaps 300nS before the crossing. It works in Spice, with an accuracy of around 50nS, but who knows if it will transfer gracefully into hardware.

So, how do I go about linking the K device to the inductors.

Cheers, Finn Hammer

Hi Finn,

Here are the MicroSim instructions:

Pages 2-56 to 2-63.

Hopefully the info you seek is in there. I have never done the non-ideal coupling thing...

Cheers,

Terry

Thanks, Terry.

The reference manual is knee-deep in spice netlist examples, but does not cover the procedure used in the front end, the graphic interface: Schematic.

The same goes for the user guide, that I went looking for after that.

In Brazil somewhere, however, i found this wonderfull set of application notes, and they cover the K device in sufficient detail to get going.
