I just ran across thes caps on ebay, has anyone had any experience with them? 0.33uF 2kV, High voltage Polypropylene Film Capacitor Item number: 160045870694

How much ($) do they want? =P

They are buy it now at 55 cents each with reasonable shipping. The seller is in china but does have a 100% rating. Take a look, I would post a shortcut but I don't know how.

These are metalized film caps, which are lower current rating than a full film/foil construction.

What is your application?

I note that these capacitors are rather small given their values. I dont know if thats a good thing or bad thing (might mean they used a thinner dielectric, so that 2kV rating may not have much head room?).

Hi Steve,
It's nice to hear from you. I just was looking at them, but if I was applying I would be using them in a TC. Sharp of you to notice that they are full metallised. I know Dan likes full met. caps but I have been sticking with the tried and true. I am right now trying to decipher all the info on SISG because it seemed that this would be a nice bridge for me into the solid state world since I basically got overwhelmed with DRSSTC. If you can, is there anything specific I should look for in a Microwave oven transformer, or are they all pretty much the same.

Perhaps you could start a thread in the Tesla Coil section with your questions? In attempts to keep the forums tidy, Moderators dont like when you get too far off topic.

To briefly answer your question, you will almost certainly want film/foil caps for a SISG, but DRSSTCs have a more unique position where the RMS currents are higher in relation to peak currents (meaning you need many parallel strings) so even metalized caps will work well. This is because both types have similar RMS current capability, but the foil caps have better Ipk ratings (usually around 2X for the same cap value).
