HX108-2 am radio kit

Sulaiman, Tue Feb 02 2021, 04:02PM

Being bored during covid lockdown I bought a Hx108-2 am radio kit.
All components were correct, it worked first time, and has better am DX reception than my Retekis V115 digital radio.

If there are still am broadcasts near you this could be a good learning kit.

I paid RM8. 81 (USD2.18) with postage from China.

Good to hear from you, Sulaiman! Sorry about late reply -- I was waiting to get an easy Captcha for login to 4hv.
Thanks for sharing the AM radio kit success story.

Last AM radio I built was a kit for high school Electronics class in about 1970.
Actually a little AM transmitter for broadcast band, with a circuit board and two vacuum tubes. Like "iTx" brand kits seen on internet today, except it included a wooden case and painted metal front panel.

A couple years later I modified it, replacing one tube with a thyratron, for microphone triggering of an electronic photoflash lamp. Got the thyratron by mail; can't remember what magazine or catalog was the starting point. So the design was still semiconductor-free, except for silicon rectifier diodes.

I would love to have a high-performance AM radio. However, at least in the USA, the AM band is filled with nothing but evangelical Christian programs and right-wing talk radio. Its a vast waste land which is too bad. So this makes an AM radio rather useless here in the USA. Hopefully its better in other countries.
