Approx self-capacitance of secondary coil (DRSSTC build )

Hi all,

I’m looking for approximations of secondary coil self-capacitance. I note that even a few pFs wildly lowers self-resonant frequency.

My secondary has inductance of 27mH (theoretical)

I’m trying to decide whether to stick with a full bridge of 4 x TO-247 devices ( Fairchild FGH75N60UFTU) or use a large toroid and get the operating frequency down to around 120KHz to switch with CM300s.

It will be a lot easier to complete the physical build but has spending implications ... budget creeping !

This is my fourth ever coil , and my second SSTC.

JAVATC will give you the self-capacitance and many more parameters.

you may have already found your answer but mesure the inductance at 1khz and then find the resonant frequency and solve for capacitance. as far as a big toride bogger is better because it will become the dominant capacitance and not disributive capacitance, ditributive capacitance is in paralell with your secondary inductance and a toride is series capacitance with secondary inductance witch is what you want.
