Solid State Spark Gap

Hi Everyone,

I made the Terry Fritz solid state spark gap but it doesn't work worth a crap. I've set a standard spark gap to discharge at 2kv and it works great. I made the SSSG using 6 350V sidacs and a 3kv IGBT. It barely lights a neon bulb on the secondary. The circuit works, just not very well at all. Does anybody have experience with these SSSG's? Are the voltages compatible with a standard spark gap? Are there any simple alternatives? I've tried avalanching SCR's and a high voltage NPN but nothing. This is for an arc starter project where I don't want to use a spark gap because of ozone production, light, and noise. A spark gap means I need fans to ventilate the enclosure. I'd rather not have to do it.

hhi electricgufu.
yes.the solid state spark gap not works as air gap
complete disruption is not possible.
but you may use air gap properly designed to avoid fan
see arc starter and stabilizer in this. forum

what is the purpose of your project ?
how muche. is the peak current in the gap?
how many pulses per second ?
how many microsecond take one pulse
may you do a drawing ?
