Signs announced that Saturday, January 12, is the last day of business for the retail store.
Hours still 8 to 7 M-F, 9 to 5 Saturday.
Inventory on the shelves looked a little bit depleted. Close-out sale discounts are 40% to 80% depending on the category.
Whatever doesn't sell in the next 3 days goes to some business buyer, to be sold online from some facility with lower rent.
I will miss that place, after being a customer for more than 35 years. Probably not more than 50 visits total, at their three addresses during that period.

I recently moved to the bay area and had been once before. I did not expect my second time would be my last. I dropped by on Saturday afternoon to visit one last time and get some parts. They had cake and some food in remembrance of the store and lots of long timer customers were there.
I grew up going to a surplus store in San Diego and I was really excited to find something similar in the bay area, its a shame that HSC has closed. The bay area is now even more of an overpriced cultural wasteland.

Maybe we crossed paths over there Saturday. I got there about 4 pm & bought a few more things I'll actually use right away! (neon panel-mounted indicator light and high voltage rectifier tubes). The check out line was about an hour long at 5 pm! Talked with one old acquaintance, Eric the CRT clock guy at our local Maker Faires (many years ago). I think Jeri Ellsworth was there -- she and I had talked a time or two at the electronics flea market just as many years ago. No Bob Pease, of course, may he rest in peace. Did you notice the "memorabilia" case on wall right next to front door? Before last night I hadn't noticed that it includes a few Halted or Haltek invoices signed by Steve Jobs in about 1968, when he would have been a high school student in Los Altos.

I don't think we crossed paths, I think I ended up leaving at ~3:00. I would have stayed longer but I went with some friends who did not want to stay as long as I did.
I never noticed the "memorabilia" case, there was so much stuff to look at.

Done. Not too good with really big primes,
but 944,871,244,210,099,859 is the product of two sort of big ones.
