IKEA "Blanda Blank" Serving Bowls

Has anyone ever used these stainless steel bowls for anything high voltage related, e.g., Van de Graaff HV terminal or E field grading/shielding?

If so I'm wondering: (1) How close to hemispherical are they, e.g., is the height exactly 1/2 the diameter; do they have a flat spot so as to sit stably on a flat surface? (2) What is the thickness of the stainless steel?

I have used 2x (2x 28cm Blanda s/s bowl) as toploads for a pair of scalar-wave Tesla Coil receivers for a larger Tesla Coil transmitter..
The bottoms are flat enough for the bowl to stand up BUT
making a nice equatrorial seam is not easy.

I've used them for my VDG and they do the job. They are not perfect hemispheres, as stated above but they are close enough for hobby level stuff. To make them fit together I epoxied tabs to the inside rim of one sphere so the other one will line up. Using foil tape and a spoon to smooth out all the wrinkles gives a pretty good joint with no sharp edges.

I think the metal is ~0.5-1mm, thick enough you could stand on one and it would support your weight.

Hmm, now you got me thinking about a Blanda Blank bowl as a vacuum "bell jar", maybe thicker and stronger than a stainless-steel teakettle. Anybody know how much they weigh?

And Nik, good to see you. About your avatar ...
last summer I stumbled upon the web comic Questionable Content, became a fan, and could not stop binge-reading the whole canon (about 3500 strips at the time). Tequila Monster rendering and the writer's move to Canada both happened about 10 years ago, eh?

I used a Vollrath #67510 aluminum stock pot as a vacuum vessel and it worked out very well. As it turned out, the diameter of the stock pot was a perfect fit for a standard 10" bell jar L gasket (viton).

I've pulled a vacuum on the IKEA bowls and they stand up just fine. I wonder if they would be suitable for a cheap fusor...
