UV diode group buy

Conundrum, Tue Sept 25 2018, 08:04AM

Hi, can anyone think of a use for UV diodes?

have to buy a sensible quantity but at 6E each + 16.95E postage it seems an expensive way to tell if it works.

These are proper tested ones BTW none of that failium (tm) I bought last time.
Apparently peak power is in the 5.5mW range at 350-370nm viewing angle 3 degrees.

Incidentally thanks Stella for the Tb doped sheet, seems to work with alpha particles from 241Am too if you irradiate the photosensitive side.
For some reason this source seems "hotter" than most so I can see the glow (yellow-green) in a darkened room.

I can send them untested or try one out first to see what the performance is like.
These have internal Zeners to prevent static damage as well.

I am very interested in finding aLED's in the UV-spectral "SOLAR BLIND" region, especially as high as 5mW power range. However, I think the range is somewhere like 250nm - 300nm (...not 100% sure). One applications is non line-of-sight optical communications in bright sunlight. I have even seen a "solar blind peak" photomultiplier lately. I have -never- seen mW-level compatable UV LED's! Maybe a lot has happened in the UV-LED technology in the last few years. How expensive are they?

if someone finds a 210nm one let me know

I've wanted useful u.v. leds for decades !
I've settled for low pressure mercury tubes,
lots of light at 184 and 253 nm,
or just 254nm via borosilicate glass.

Should have asked me. I have some very small circular tubes from case lights, thanks to Arcadia Express.

Just found on ebay LEDs 310, 275, 265nm. From memory 1980's: found a small eprom eraser-matched ROM quartz circle ~254nm. IIRC: from "JKL lighting" not LED

Good find. I think they are good diodes but not sure without ordering some.
If you get any 265 or 275nm ones let me know, as I have some old EPROMs that need erasing.

EDIT: I have two UV LEDs from my broken nail lamp (don't ask!!) pre-mounted in bottle caps with
approx 45cm flying leads and parallel antistatic resistors.
Estimate power in the 20mW range but still useful.
Confirmed that the varnish still dries with a single diode at close range and I'd picked the least bad ones
from the back edge as they had the best heatsinking.

Anyone have a use?
I can still be contacted on my old Email address.

Would be happy to sell on my encapsulated spares, confirmed they are intact and antistatic protected.
