the folks drinking Heavy Water on video

The video of the young fellow and his girlfriend drinking lab-grade samples.

I erroneously thought is was yet another meme joke from Rick and Morty.. wink

However, they anecdotally reported that it has a sweet taste with an odd after taste.
I am curious if the phenomena occurs in general with some isotopes, and if any real studies were available prior to the age of safety standards.

Cheers,
Rod

This guy is crazy, he does some pretty dangerous experiments and drank cyanide in one video!

Very educational channel though! :P

My favorite youtube channel. He dips his whole arm into liquid mercury at one point as well.

His coilgun video was painful to watch though

I once read an article, where the effect of isotope mixtures on smells was investigated. There seemed to be an effect, giving hints on the olfactory process.

Many elements occur naturally as isotopic blends. Water e.g. contains about 0.01% heavy water. I doubt it's outright poisonous. But then I also heard, that you shouldn't drink large amount of distilled water. Due to osmosis it can lead to the rupture of cells coming into contact with it. Might be an urban legend.

Not all enzymes work correctly with heavy water, but you'd need to drink a lot to give yourself a problem. Drinking 'labeled' water, I don't know what concentration is used, is a method of studying water processes in the human body.

Cody's Lab is on my subscriptions list and I know of him by a pseudonym on a chemistry forum,
he is chemistry-educated and has inherited a mine, and mining knowledge.
I watched most of his excellent videos, but now he's going for clickbait.

The "click-bait" might be the explanation. Get rich and or famous with each click. Thats if he's smart, just drinking normal tap water as a scam.

If he's on the dumber side then he really is drinking heavy water. There's no way to independently verify his claims by others, as would be standard practice, because the rest of us aren't stupid.

I recall deuterium studies done on lung cancer patients showing how it impacts gene expression differently in males and females.

And... I'm fairly certain this scenario was also from the Hulk Movie too...
Click bait or not, such jokes are in poor taste... wink
