Convert cheap MP3 player to run video display

Hi all.
This may sound insane but it seems that some cheap MP3 players such as the OutPut (tm) are able to read up to 32GB as long as it is in FAT32 format.
I am aware of the filesystem limitations but as the plan here is to overclock the player (not an issue, as the limiting factor is the uSD card) and then use a slight modification of the audio output to generate video.

The tricky part is going to be the colour, for which an external chip would be needed.
Clocking out Y/C as baseband then using two voltage controlled oscillators to regenerate the colour subcarrier.

I plan to put it in a modified electronic fireplace as an expensive DVD player is currently used and wastes 30W of power.

Any ideas?

Yeah, might have to do that.
I wanted to see if it was possible to reduce power consumption, the Model A is only 110mA so.

nominal, but I'm pretty sure that you would be able to reach lower consumption with lower CPU usage... if you need HD video it will be greater, but you still have a composite output, which would at least reach the same possibilities as your MP3 sound output

Interesting. I've just acquired a box (40) of assorted 8, 16 and 32GB "faulty" memory cards which are actually mostly OK.
Looks like there are a lot more problems with phones taking larger cards than I thought, all but one of these 32's are essentially fine once zerofilled.

The plan is to make a Pi "jukebox" with XBMC loaded on each card as it is only 300MB then reserve the rest for films etc.
Switching between cards is actually quite simple and only requires changing a single pin to logic High to enable/disable each.
