Fun with a Vortex Cannon - Photo Gallery

Thanks to Peter and several others, I made my first Vortex Cannon and it was a complete success at my cousin's 4th birthday party. Everything was a real hoot, and the only problems I had was keeping all the kids in line (like Peter said, like herding cats) and trying to get them to stop messing up the rings as soon as they were formed.

Here is a photo gallery (lots of photos)

And here is a 16MB AVI video of the thing in action with my wife and son, Michael

Great pics on the day. In fact at perhaps 500MB, several times larger than my whole website. You now hold the unofficial record for most rings apparent in one shot (8).
It looks like you had an excellent day for it with sunshine and little wind.

Your Dobsonian mount construction is a little let down by the duct tape however but the bricks are a nice touch. I particularly like the evil looking smoke generator on top. Its a bit smaller than mine and might have fitted inside, but this way you can see the fluid level. Just watch the 15 degree level requirement if it has that.

They are rather hard for kids of all ages to ignore, aren't they.

Thanks.

One thing that was especially cool was when two rings joined together (usually at a distance), they would form into one larger ring, but with two swirling vortices on each side of it. Pretty cool.
