optical v - switch

I just discovered the v - switch on this forum, and wondered if it is possible to use an optic gate rather than an inductive sensor and transformer.

Yea it would work fine to trigger the scr, but you'll either need:
a projectile longer than your coil with the sensor on the exiting side of the coil.

-or-

With the sensor before the coil you'll need some more fancy logic in order to trigger it when the beam has been restored (the beam will be unbroken before the projectile gets there, so you can't just have an unbroken beam be your trigger event, it has to occur after the beam has been broken and restored.)

the circuit from here Link2
Doesn't necessary need the transformer to trigger the first SCR. The inductor at the entrance of the coil is the important part, and probably worth a shot because it looks so simple.
