2 channel 30MHz scope for the needy

..., Fri Jul 21 2006, 03:13AM

For the last few years I have been using a BK Precision 2120B 2 channel 30mhz scope for just about everything. I slept about 2m away from it it was so close to me cheesey

I recently got a bigger badder one tongue

So now I want to pass it down to someone else that can't afford the $500 to get the scope new...

I am 'giving' away my scope at about 90% off it's original cost. The scope is fully functional, in great cosmetic condition, and in the original box. It has everything that came with it (listed in the first link) 2 1/10x probes, manual (I will throw in a book on scope use if you want it), spare fuse, etc.

For this used in box scope, I am thinking about $40ish + actual shipping (it weighs 20lbs) to you from area code 91007.

To be eligible for the scope you much have been a member of 4hv for at least a month, and have made at least 20 posts, or have a very good reason why I should sell you a scope at 90% off. In addition, you must not have any working scope (unless it is not sufficient for you needs, that is up to me).

Finally you absolutely must be willing to learn how to use the scope, and use it. You must agree to not sell/trade it for at least a year. Lying, omitting important information, or stretching the truth in any way will disqualify you. (if you want to joke make sure there is a smilie next to it)

Post here why you think you deserve to get it. I am going to leave this open for a full week, as I am going on vacation. When I get back (Sunday the 29th) I will read over any submissions, look at the users backgrounds, and choose who I feel is best suited for the scope. Payment terms will be decided upon and it will be yours.

Good luck!

You might want to tell them if it includes probes etc... =P

*POP* The sound of exploding scopes around the globe.

Scope probes aren't really too expensive when you consider the cost of the unit in the first place cheesey

I’m interested if you’re willing to ship overseas cause I live in Switzerland. My old scope gave up about two months ago and I’ve been watching ebay for another one. Originally my uncle told me he would send me an old scope to replace my dead one so I spent all my money on parts orders but then he called to say it weighed 70pounds and he was not sending it. mistrust:-( I think I deserve this scope because it’s really expensive for me to get stuff shipped to Switzerland (considering many scopes are heavy) and while I can afford buying another scope off ebay the shipping will be too much. Since your scope is relatively light it would be a lot easier for me to afford shipping. I used my old scope every week so I would definitely use this one a lot. I would have no intention to sell or trade it as it is exactly what I’ve been looking for.

thats a wonderful offer. your heart truly is in the science. :)

i would like to be eligible for this scope. i have limited funds and have been very frustrated locating a scope that is afordable and claims to be fully working (you know how ebay is). if it's any consolation, my birthday was yesterday :)

a scope like that would definatly do me well and would be many years before i need a bigger badder one.

i have a realy old eico 425 built in 52' and copyrighted in 48' that dose not function. still worth the $5 i payed for it by far. sadly i can't locate the necesary parts to fix it. it's a museum peice now wich i have no problem with cuase i think it's atractive in it's retro design.

i don't meet the requirment of 20 posts on the new forum just yet but i have been a member of 4hv for ~1.5 years and am on #hvcomm dayly. pop in and ask about me if you care to or just chat. we could always use more peeps talking shop there.

i feal i should ad my intended use but thats realy unnesesary due to it being very predictable due to the nature of this forum. :) would be nice to see what my oscilators are realy osc'ing at and to check the frez of the inductors i use and make in my circuits.

in the meen time i will be waiting nervously for your desision. :)

Hi, I must say how suprising it is for someone to give away something for so little, this will be very helpful to me, or to whomever you chose.

Anyways, I would also like to be a candidate for this scope. I have been recently starting to build SSTC's, and it takes me a long time to get them working usually since I have never had a scope and I am never really sure if the Gate freq is right , or numerous other things. And currently I am having a very strange problem with my SSTC that everyone I have asked about has no idea how to fix it, and since I have no scope they can't recommend much.

I've tried to find places to buy them but as I am 15 as well I don't exactly have hundreds of dollars sitting around to spend on my endeavors. A scope would be a great use to me, almost everyone in the 4hv chat tells me that I need one. And I know if I did, then I would be able to understand more about circuitry and how things work together.

Thanks!!
Edit: It would also be a nice present for my 16 birthday on August 5th :P

Hi my name is Danny from the great white north.(Canada, eh?) I may be a little older then most the other candidates (18) but I have always wanted a scope. I still can't believe that I have been working with electronics since I was a wee lad but I never could save enough money to buy one. The cheapest one I found locally was $1200 plus 15% sales tax! And eBay is a rather shady place to buy high price items. I would feel more comfortable buying something off of a fellow 4hv member. I have seemed to get by fine for the longest time with a cheap $15 DMM but since my interest have spread into fields that would require a scope (Tesla coils mostly but a scope could be useful for tuning my coil guns/disk launcher and other applications) so I find myself rather limited. Yes I have a job but with the income I make at Canadian Tire I don't really have enough disposable income (I got bills to pay) for such an expensive piece of equipment. Although ~$100 with shipping is down to something I can actually afford with some proper budgeting of coarse wink. I have never used a scope before but I'm more then willing to learn. To sum everything up into one sentance "I would sell my sole before I would sell this scope."

Well it was a very hard decision to make.... But I had to chose someone cry

drum roll please....
keep going
hold your breath
scroll down

Nick Soroka

If it is any consolation to the rest of you, I chose Nick because it is hard for him to gat any scope shipped to him... I would recommend the rest of you in the US to search eBay for a similar scope and watch carefully until you find one that has a short warranty and a low price (they are out there) And for Danny I would just try asking the sellers if they are willing to ship the scope by either USPS global priority mail (for the 4 day shipping, should be <$60) or via economy parcel post (should be <$35). Sooner or later you will find someone willing to ship it to you...

Congrats Nick! I hope this scope gives you many years of useful service. I'll be sure to keep my eye's open. I'm sure something will turn up eventually.

Nick is the most deserving concidering his over sea's situation. It was a fair descision.

Congratulations Nick and enjoy. :)
