Coil gun back EMF diode question
Alex M, Thu Jan 05 2012, 09:27PMIts been a while since I last played around with coil guns and now I know a little more about what back-emf is I am wondering what sort of protective diode should I use on my capacitor back?
Like what sort of specs should it have (high current, high voltage ect). Would a single UF4007 work?

What do you mean by switch? I am just using a chicken stick to make the connection (it sparks loudly).

You should rate the current and voltage to about 20% above what flows through the coil. You can estimate this using the famous barry simulators.
