Cokelogged PC

Hi all.

This is probably a lost cause, but its a moderately nice Sempron Compaq system which has had coke spilled in it.

Does the usual BEEEEEEEEEEP problem, indicating serious issues with the mainboard.

Opened up, Coke EVERYWHERE but there doesen't seem to be much corrosion.

Just tried cleaning with a toothbrush and DI soapy water, its in fan oven at 50C now.

Anyone else ever done this and repaired it? If nothing else it will be a victim for my BGA repair games.

BIOS "Beep codes" tell you whats wrong with the system.

Remove all board parts: batteries, drives, communication cards, RAM, and CPU.

Spray with contact cleaner, wash thoroughly in 99% alcohol, and store in a zip-lock bag with a few cups of dry rice in a warm spot.

When reassembling the system a few days later one may find the same beep code will occur as a part could have died when it was plugged-in while shorted. ...do not eat rice... =)
