these capacitors: too good to be true?

500v, 8200 uF for $7.08 usd

with a factory lead time of 36 weeks, it may take the better part of a year to receive them, but this seems like
an astonishingly good deal. 145J per dollar?

thoughts?

I emailed mouser to make sure it's not a typo. if it isn't, i'm going to order a bunch asaigp (as soon as i get paid) and take portable coilguns to a new level (in a year lol)

it'll be a typo. Look at the other caps in the same series - they are 10x the price.

If your lucky they will offer the price. Sometimes it makes you want to buy it, and then if they complain you tell them or was listed as this price and ask if they offer it

Its real.

I just called Mouser, and had her look it up. She told me they ordered them for $7.08 each and they wont be in until probably next year around Fall. (she wasnt sure on the arrival).

I told her the case, that people on the forums mention it and said the other series whwere 10X the price. I said "So its 100% garenteed to be $7.08 each? Im sure its a mistake thats crazy cheap" and she said "Yup thats how much we got them for"

So, unless this girl is programmed to go off what the site says, she (A sale representative at mouser) said its the correct price.

Im going to call again in a few days to get a different sales clerk, and double check...and ask if they can garentee the price so if its fake, i still get it for $7..

I would not buy them until someone else has 2nd proof of this in case my girl was wrong.

HA!
you're welcome 4hv :)
and thanks for calling them killa.
I'll order some upon 2nd confirmation,
can never have too many big ass capacitors to
potentially blow myself up with.

Just out of curiosity. Did anyone receive some of these capacitors ? Because the going price which was around 7-8$ if I remember correctly...according to the same URL, says that they now go for 10x that amount easily.

Well I'll make up for the blunder with this:

I found out several days ago, that a family member of mine had purchased some of these capacitors as a present for me in early September, and about a week ago they finally arrived. Apparently 10 were bought for only $80 in total.

wow. well lucky you then. I'm glad somebody got a hold of them. I hope you make an epic coil/rail gun and don't get hurt in the process.

Yes, I am pretty excited as of now. I think perhaps I may try to make an ETG. The possibilities with 10kJ are endless, and yes with the kind of stored energy, extreme caution will be exercised.
