Look here,a reluctance coilgun design from China

Hello everyone,I'm a student from China and now study in HIT(Harbin Institute of Technology, she is one of the most famous university in China which is major in military weapon design).
Last yerar I and 2 other classmates of mine envolved in a project which called"Reluctance Coil Launcher",we have been working on this for 7months and now it is coming to an end.
1 We have 4 stages to accelerate a projcetile weights 55g(it is made of steel);
2 We totally use 27 capacitors to discharge the projectile.
9 for 1-stage(it has 3 groups in parallel connection and in each group there are 3 capacitors in series connection)6 for 2-stage,6 for 3-stage,6 for 4-stage.
3 Each capacitor has a parameter of 450V--1200uf(but we only charge one capacitor to 400V)
4 We use 220V/50Hz alternating current through a 220V--1300V transformer and a brtdge to charge the capacitors. They totally stores 2k Joules.
5 We use SCRs and have no cut-offs during launching.
6 We have a coil sheath made of steel around each coil to strength the magnetic field.
7 Each projectile has a diameter of 14mm and a length of 80mm.
Yesterday,we made a experiment and got some datas as following says.
1 It reached a speed of 82m/s(we choose the fastest data in all 10 shoots)and had an kinetic energy of 180J.
2 It had a efficiency of 9% totally(I think it is not a low efficiency)
3 We spent 105 pounds on this project(really cheap,Ehh?)
OK ,I think this data will make our professor having a happy day.
Now I have some questions to ask you,my friends in Westen countries.
1 Could anyone tell me the data of the highset efficiency and highest kinetic energy in this Forum?(I have only heard of Donnie James'127 Joules shooting)
2 I have poor German/Russian,so I have no mind on the“Coil Launch Fieldâ€in those two countries.Could any gentlemen do me a favour to tell me some datas of them?
3 My English is not good, but I dare to write this thread in this forum,I want to join all of you and be a friend of you.
The last word of this thread,I want to say it in Chinese:勇往直å‰ï¼ï¼ï¼ï¼ˆmarch forward courageously)
I have uploaded some pictures, could it be seen by others?

That sounds like quite the project!!! As far as I know, 9% efficiency is the highest I've seen on the forum. I did see >10% somewhere as a grad project. I'm not sure about the kinetic energy though, as you can get really high KE with a heavy projectile. You've also have one of the fastest guns that I've seen. I've heard about one that broke 100 m/s but have never seen documentation on it.
Could we get some pictures of this beast?

Thanks for your reply,Turkey9,I've seen you in many threads.
Several days later(maybe 2~3days),I will upload the photos of the “beastâ€ã€‚It depends on how busy we are in future couple of days.
Emm,there is a forum in China which talks about Electronic Weapons, just like 4HV,but in none of us have made or seen an "Induction Coilgun"design there.
How about 4HV?Is any one here have been making an "Induction Coilgun" yet?
Btw,do you know some situations in Germany and Russia?

Even if you are not able to read, the pics speak for themselves:

Hey,man,it seems that you know some Chinese!
H.I.T.means 哈尔滨工业大å¦ã€‚
Your translation have missed the word
Technology which in Chinese means 科技/工业.

Yes,I have been trying to read the meaning of threads through their pictures, however,I could not see every picture, some of them says"It couldn't be read"。I don't know why.

yep, i know my Chinese because I've spent my first 10 years in China

I'm currently working on an induction coil gun between other projects. I've seen it mentioned in theory but have only seen one that has been built, the one that was posted previously. Pity, IMHO.

Oh,that is great!I have found a person who had been lived in China.Ehh,I really want to know some opinings in your mind about China and Chinese people.
You can also begin our conversation privatly through message in this forum, shall we begin it?

""
Sry,I don't understnd the word "it" in your sentence"I've seen it mentioned in theory..." and the meaning of "Pity, IMHO".
Could you explain it for me?
Then,if "the one"means induction coilgun,I have known many of its kind. For instance, the Sandia National Lab in America, they have been leading the world's coilgun developing for nearly 25 years.

Here is another induction coilgun with research project details that you may find quite helpful:
Pulsed Linear Induction Motor by Braam Daniels in South Africa. Download his PDF and settle in for a nice long read.
Cheers, Barry
BTW - Trolls, dont bug me. Ur flames will only roast my marshmellows and I laff at ur failure. 8DD

Sorry, by "it" I meant an inductance coilgun. "IMHO" means "in my honest opinion". I think it's pity because it's a promising type of accelerator that has not been worked with much in the hobby world other than disk launchers.
Barry: Thanks for the link! I saw that project on your site years ago but had forgotten about it!

Thanks for your explaination.
Another question:how could I upload my pictures and make it seen by others?(I have uploaded two,but now it cann't seen even by myself)

That looks great! Do you have any video's of it in action?
Also I find it strange the way you made the projectiles.

You'd probably get a few more m/s if you didn't make the projectiles look like rifle cartridges. You want the full diameter of metal at the front of the projectile to minimize the air gap between it and the coil. Try just a simple cylinder with a flat from or slight taper.

Yeah, you're right,we use a projectile with a flat top and with this kind we got 30%more efficiency than 9% at present. The following picture will show its shape.

It weighs about 12kg.
