look at this Video amazed

i thought i could turn up the on time a bit and run this small coil (15cm coil 5cm diameter, 0,1mm wire) on 400bps. thats amazing. i watched every frame and i noticed that the discharges hit the power cord several times and the heatsink of the fullbridge but the drsstc doesnt care cheesey .

the spraypaint can is 40cm away shades

What is that small spark about halfway down the secondary that keeps reappearing? Was that one of the things you already mentioned? I would be a bit nervous, but that's just me wink
That's an impressive video!!!

I guess this is just to make me suffer more (maybe for beast day cheesey )

I can't imagine sparks long even as secondary on my crappy coil :P

And I also see something that looks like interturn arcing on secondary (constant), maybe you have a broken wire there...

yeah i know, thats why i made this video. i wanted to burn the broken secondary, hense this incredible bps and on time of around 400yS, but nothing can destroy it. the secondary failure was caused yesterday from a racing arc burning a hole in the sec.secondary destroyed or not, i have to make a new one tongue

Maybe in CW you would have better luck...

wow, do you think the driver could handle that kind of power for extended runs? I would give the new secondary a good coat of epoxy and run it like that all of the time suprised Very impressive!

Considering he is running at like a 15% duty cycle I doubt that CW operation would be possible...

I wanted to say he'l probably have more luck for blowing that secondary up in some CW coil... cheesey

yeah, and blow all other parts up too.

i made a few screenshots of the video i think they are interesting or impressive

You don't have any 'normal' SSTC? smile

Nice sparks(ss)..

Just a precautionary measure- Is that a bottle of something with a flammable propellant that the sparks are hitting tongue

Hi,

A person once arced a Tesla coil to a can of spray paint. It went "BAD" amazed

The valve tip attracted a big arc and burnt through and failed the can's valve. The paint came out fast and uncontrolled and the arc ignited the gas. I think the quote was "Thank God the new car was not in the garage too..." He was no longer allowed to play with Tesla coils...

The can was new and also became a self propelled rocket racing around inside the garage. The inside of the garage had to be repainted (rafters and roof trusses...) and the floor cleaned with power sprayers and such... I have not heard back since, so I assume his parents still have in locked up in the closet...

A more deliberate attempt in an open field to "see what happens" set the field on fire but in a minor way... The effect was similar...

Be careful wink

Cheers,

Terry

How old was the kid, and are you sure it was an accident? I was bit of pyro when I was in high school and was constantly trying to use sparks to set things on fire. It always wound up being a lot harder than they showed on TV. Paper and plastic objects would just get holes in them, gas and rubbing alcohol would never go off on the first try, but I could get them to light. Anti-static bags and plastic air-duct tape seem to go up in flames pretty quick. I never had any paint cans, but I remember getting an empty can of WD-40, taking it out into a field and setting the the straw on fire like a fuse to see what would happen when it got to the cap.

BTW, those are some really cool sparks coming out of that tiny coil.
