405nm laser and uranium glass marbles

Since we're getting closer to the winter holidays, and we're used to see little lights all around, here's another picture with uranium glass green fluorescence, when illuminated by UV:

Thats pretty cool, where did you get the 402nM laser from? all pens I see are 405

You are right, I've corrected the typo.

aww... sad

I started to get my hopes up...

hmm, don't 405nm lasers change wavelength when cooled down?
402nm might be possible at like -30 Celsius.
(cough peltier cascade /cough)

Eh, Ill try that out for fun, see if there is any noticable differance.
peltier shmeltier, Ill just put it outside for an hour... its already -35C anyway..

405nm diodes actually vary quite a bit. I had a 12X that lased at 408nm, and a PHR that lased at 401nm. The 12X was noticeably brighter, even at lower powers. You could drop that diode in a glass of distilled water, that's a nice way to heatsink it. Just make sure you clean the diode window afterwards.

Ive got a few PHRs around, I suppose I can try that too later.
are you on LPF Meatball?

Yep. You?

Here's one thread I found, but I can't seem to find the thread where a LOC was dunked.

yep, im GBD there..

wouldn't doing this with a C-mount as shown wreck the die if water got on it?
(water will cause COD?)
well, I dont have any C-mounts anyway, but was just wondering.

hmm.

On a side note, does anyone happen to have any "small" i.e. 5cm*5cm Peltiers?
i am trying to make a cascade but i only have two sizes, 12cm and 8cm from defunct camping fridges.

The Austrian firm Roithner Laser Technik sell 395nm 50mW laser diodes, and single and multi-chip power UV LEDs down to 350nm.

Just remember that a cup of mocha with a slice of fresh cream cake costs good money in Vienna! smile
