just upgraded to general, then right after that to Amateur Extra! (at first I was told I did not pass the extra, then on my way home my brother got a call at the house saying that the ARRL sent two grading overlays with the same label and they got them mixed up so I actually passed!) up next is building my 40 meter transceiver... 73! I recently won a Kenwood TS520S hf transceiver on ebay very cheaply .. and it works great! I put up a dipole for 20m using 0.8mm copper wire (it's all I had to hand) tried to tune-up with a local (5 miles) friend .. loads of noise - hardly any signal .. disappointing. Immediately after I got a call from Maine (USA) - super clear! I'm in the middle of UK! I'm getting quite keen on this hobby. Can't wait for the sunspots to return.

K1ULF, Extra, Got my licence in late 2007. Was SM3PFT in the 80th but dropped it when I started at college. Picked it up with the idea of doing telemetry for rockets but was absorbed by cheap software based radios (Softrock) so I ended up learning CW instead and never attempted any telemetry. I typically operate on 80m and 40m using straight key CW through a Softrock. ($31 piece of hardware that gives 80% of the funtionality of a $$$$$ Flexradio.)

There seem to be quite a few of us that have amateur radio licenses, how about we try to contact each other on the air? Trans-atlantic propagation on 20m is poor at the moment but occasionally good,
If the airwaves are not full of contestants then I'll start at 18:00 GMT UTC this Sunday near 14.3 MHz.
That is a really good idea Sulaiman. I think that there are quite a lot of people who will attent to this event, but I think that this thread is not getting enough attention !

I personally think this would be a great idea! I actually get my first HF rig tomorrow, but it is only 5 Watts : - P - and I don't know if I'll have enough to get an amp...
if possible, maybe those who are out of reach could use an Echolink connection to get out to some other 4HV operators? maybe we could setup a, sort of, "repeater network" with some volunteered hardware... this could allow for some various frequencies, useful for those with a technician class, or low-end gear...

Please keep the planning of QSOs and such to seperate threads on the EM Radiation board. Not only will it draw more attention, but it will prevent this thread from being pulled away from its purpose of cataloging 4HV's ham radio operators.
