Putting many diodes in series for a HV diode.

They will be under oil too.

Left: 10 diodes. Right 12 diodes, Im thinking my first attempt might be the better pattern.

I dont know if the Gen 3 diodes are too close or not?

holes are 0.077" for the diodes, and 0.105" diamater for the wires.

I'd feel uncomfortable about the diodes actually touching in Gen 3.

Anything that could facilitate tracking - including salty fingerprints - should be avoided.

If leakage is important, don't use phenolic material as base. The base will leak more than the diodes very easily. Fiberglass, or an acrylic plate, are much better.

Ok, I trust your experience and judgment Proud Mary. Another 0.1 inches will be added to each diodes place, then they wont touch.

This is excellent work, but for a 20kV square wave id need 20 diodes at 0.4 inches each, then for a derating factor of 50% would yield a diode 16 inches long. Too long.

This is only true if the material has the slightest bit of moisture. If you live in texas and keep the deoxit as far away as posible, it'll be fine.

I wonder if Antonio means phenolic paper laminates like 'Paxolin' which is used in some inferior boards. Sparks jump at the chance of burning a track in it.

PCB like FR-4 has a dielectric breakdown rating of 20 kV/mm.
