A few years ago when I was running my dual MOT magnifier, a 5 foot streamer hit the edge of a window and the whole window shattered but stayed in place completely full of cracks.
I've never heard of a tesla coil shattering windows before.
Has anyone ever had this happen before?

I suspect some VTTC testing in CW mode may have caused false alarms on a security system nearby.. wink

Hi,
a gopro placed at the level of the rotating spark gap goes off when the Tesla coil was work.

One night I was running a version of Steve Wards Mini sstc.
I had an old laser pointer (the cheap ones you buy to play with cats)
Just for fun i placed it on top of the toroid them turned on the coil.
It fired right up and had a visible red dot on the wall.
No batteries were in it.
I have seen LEDs glow bright while near the coil but they had to be held so as to provide a path for the RF.

Would be a cool disco ball effect if you glued 100s of cheap laser diodes to the toroid.

Interesting!
Wonder if "Dead!" laser diodes will work again if put on a coil?

My computer still freezes quite often with my tesla coil running, have no idea how to shield the USB properly.
I wound a few turns around a toroid on the usb cable to the midi controller, and helped a little.

Not helpful when im trying to play tunes through it!

Force beam effect. Still never explained that one!

Older topic but I found another strange effect while operating a medium sized SSTC.
I was curious about voltages at the base of a secondary coil to ground.
I placed a 1157 bulb in series with the base to the mains ground lug.
The bulb lights up nice and bright. I would estimate 550Ma of current on base to ground.

Current and voltage change in an active secondary coil but resistance stays the same ?
So high voltage low current at the breakout and low voltage high current at the base ?
Do bipolar coils overheat the center secondary windings ? Hmmm..

Applause for the experiment. Your opto coupled ammeter, responsive to RMS value of AC or DC current. :) Any current at that point, which does not make it to the top of secondary coil, needs to go somewhere else -- I guess into capacitance between coil and the rest of the world.
